GTripp0012 02-24-2009, 02:16 PM This also seems to be some guy in Houston reporting on something that couldn't have been decided yet. Since, you know, the Titans can still sign Albert in the next three days and there's nothing the Redskins can do about it.
I wouldn't dispute the fact that we're seriously interested though.
Soup's Uncle 02-24-2009, 02:17 PM Does this mean no D. Hall? What about Canty? Since we're turning into fantasy football, how 'bout this front seven:
D-Line: Carter, Haynesworth, Monty/Golston, Canty
LBs: J.Taylor, Fletch, Rocky
:Smoker:
Sounds pretty good to me.
munny 02-24-2009, 02:18 PM I would sure hope this is BS. Haynesworth would be a disaster. An injured disaster.
BigHairedAristocrat 02-24-2009, 02:30 PM So let me get this straight.... The skins are going to sign Haynesworth to a deal where he would make more than what Payton Manning per year? If reports are true, almost 1/7th of the teams entire salary will be devoted to a guy approaching 30 years old, who hasn’t started a full seaason in his 7 year career, who was spotted driving his car over 100mph two day after going on probation for reckless driving, and whose performance is expected to drop dramatically once he signs a big contract. He was nothing special his first 5 years in the league.... even now, he only averages one sack every 2 games.
If this report is true, it will seriously test my loyalty as a fan.

Of course this is just based on some dude with a blog in Houston. Also, how long have you been a fan? I mean after all the disasters the team has had, I think all of our loyalties have been tested time after time.
BigHairedAristocrat 02-24-2009, 02:37 PM Ask The Commish.com - Capanomics 101 (http://www.askthecommish.com/salarycap/)
So if the CBA expires, player salaries will escalate faster though player movement between teams will be more limited. The players, like anyone else, will think with their wallets first. Especially now that Gene Upshaw is gone.
I posted about this in another thread and i disagree with you that thats what would happen. No salary cap means no salary floor. So players on low-market teams would be grossly underpaid. Also, considering how bad the economy is, i dont think salaries will continue to escellate as it has been in the past. within a year, both owners and players will work out something new.
If the CBA goes away for good, then sure, sign haynesworth for all i care. its snyders money. Haynesworth is an upgrade to our DL... but we shouldnt expect much out of him. I dont expect him to average more than 13 games a season over the duration of his time here or more than 4 sacks/year. he'll be cut within 4 years.
As for 2009, id rather have Jason Taylor AND chris Canty for my 16M than one Albert haynesworth.

And I responded to you in that thread and in this one on that very subject, but apparently that response is getting ignored. If you want to debate it seriously, let me know. But start by reading my points.

this would top all the disasters of the past though. I guess for me, ive always deluded myself with the idea that things would get better, that Snyder has learned something... this tells me the owner of the team i love only cares about one thing - selling jerseys. And it tells me that the owner of the team i love cares more about making money than he does about winning. Why should we invest our time, money, and "heart" into something thats just using us for our money without trying to give us anything of value in return. we deserve more than that, dont we?
Ive been a redskins fan my entire life. My father raised me as a redskin fan, we stayed redskins fans, even when everyone else around us in NC switched and became panthers when that franchise started. i always thought when i had kids, id raise them as redskins fans too. maybe, im responding more with my emotions than with my head to this... but isnt being a fan about emotions in the first place?
if this rumor is true, and we do sign haynesworth to a contract that large (at the expense of addressing other positions on this team), itll truly make me question whether this team under its current ownership deserves to have me as a fan.
over the mountain 02-24-2009, 02:45 PM this team seems to address one need at a time and overkills it.
- last offseason we wanted a bigger receivers for endzone plays; we get 3 2nd rounders over 6 feet tall.
- GW asked for a field general MLB after lemar marshall didnt shine as MLB that year, we got fletcher (which was sweet!)
- GW asked for a safety after the season we let up alot of big pass plays; we get arch deluxe.
- Gibbs wanted a young qb in the wings to take over for brunnel since he clearly didnt like ramsey in that role (he was pulled after a minor 1st half injury in the 1st game); we trade up to get a god fearing JC
- few seasons ago we had old vets like caldwell starting WR; offseason we get ARE and Llyod
Does vinny and snyder go to their Off and D coord every offseason and say "put 1 name/need on a piece of paper and ill get if for you"
so im guessing blache put dominating pocket collapsing DT, zorn put OL?
go skins!!

What bothers me about this deal is FO negotiating forever with Hall to save maybe 2M and pay him 12M instead of 14M. which would have probably sealed the deal a few weeks ago. But would see no problem in giving HWorth 100M. This can't be real.
