BigHairedAristocrat 02-24-2009, 09:26 PM haynesworth will be 27 when he starts his 8th nfl season this year. he's been double teamed most of his career and that sort of beating takes its toll. investing in a 27 year old defensive tackle is like investing in a 30 year old running back or 34 year old quarterback. you may have a good year or two but you don't want to make a long term commitment to him.
53Fan 02-24-2009, 09:38 PM My thinking is, if this goes through, the defense automatically gets better and the FO figures we can sign somebody like Crowell as a FA or just draft an OLB since they feel this is a deep draft for LB's and draft some o-lineman with the idea that until they're ready, Heyer, Rinehart, and/or Clark can step up this year. With everything going on it's hard to tell what they're thinking which is probably alright with them. With AH's full 15 mil? not going toward the cap this year we could probably still sign Hall or another DB. If there is no cap next year I'm not sure it matters how much we spend as long as we get by this year. Who knows?
DirtyLandry 02-24-2009, 09:41 PM The teams has needs in the offensive side of the ball, and as we've seen with both the Titans and the Ravens, you can't win just with an elite defense.
Steelers?
Of course Jason isn't Big Ben, but our O lines were comparable.
44ever 02-24-2009, 09:54 PM From what I gather 90% of the posters are against it.
I can't see an approval poll being created until after the deal is done.
Personally I'm all for it.
I would love to see a Warpath poll made for Haynesworth: (Break the bank for Haynesworth yes or no)
I would be interested in knowing how many of us have the shortest memories and how many have finally learned their lesson about this sort of thing. Obviously DirtyLandry is all for Haynesworth but he's been wrong before;)
This guy has never played a entire season and the games he does play he's on and off the field. He had his best season in 08 of course.
This guy puts on B&G and BIG$$$ in his bank account, he's done. Do you really think this he will continue to sacrifice himself? Do I believe he will be the same Haynesworth he was in 08 I highly doubt it.
I won't go as far as sayin Haynesworth is the modern day Stubblefield/Wilkinson/B.Smith/Trotter But...
The Goat 02-24-2009, 10:01 PM He's stomping on a Cowboy, so? LOL.
Uh huh! I changed my mind I want him....:laughing2

Thank you, my friend.

Actually, he played in every game his rookie year. Because he was a rookie, he didnt start every game.

Theres that question with most players that sign a huge deal. At this point it's all speculation and If's and but's...

Not even close. In fact I've heard comparisons on ESPN that this #92 could be the most dominant D lineman since an old #92 played in Greenbay. I'm just sayin.
Slingin Sammy 33 02-24-2009, 10:11 PM Haven't we heard similar buzz on high profile FAs before: Lance Briggs and Ocho Stinko? I'm hoping this pans out the same, a lot of noise, no action and Haynesworth stays in TN. These agents all play the "Snyder will pay my guy" card to leverage their current team.
If the info I saw was correct, TN offered 4yr/36M/20-25M guaranteed, approx 9M/yr. In a link from Paul Kuharsky at ESPN: The case for paying Haynesworth ASAP - NFL Nation - ESPN (http://myespn.go.com/blogs/nflnation/0-5-121/The-case-for-paying-Haynesworth--ASAP.html): He suggests a 5-7 percent increase on Jared Allen's contract 6yr/77M approx $ 12.8M / yr. and then mentions it's likely Haynesworth won't accept that. Now we're seeing numbers (rumors) that we're offering $ 100M / 35M guaranteed / approx. 15+M per year
At the TN level Haynesworth is 7.3% of the cap, release JT and we're there, I can live with that. At the increase on JA's contract we're at 10.4% of the salary cap, with the negatives that come along with Haynesworth I can't see putting 10% of our cap on one guy unless he's a franchise QB (Brady, Manning level), Randy Moss in his prime, LT in his prime, Reggie White in his prime. But definitely not on Haynesworth whose scouting report hasn't changed since his rookie report:
Positives: Massive frame and size and a great body. Tremendous athlete for his size. Has a great upside if he will pay the price. Very quick off the ball and explosive when he plays at a good pad level. Can be overpowering and dominating inside. No one man can block him when he is motivated and uses good technique. Played much harder in '01 than he ever had before.
Negatives: Immature and needs to be pushed at times. Can't be relied upon. Is not a hard worker or self-starter. Takes too many downs off. Will get too upright and lean on the offensive linemen when he gets tired at times. Does not play nasty very often.
Summary: The type of player who could make your draft or break your heart. Could be the best defensive tackle in the draft and the best defensive lineman from Tennessee since Reggie White if he stays focused and works hard.
Also, for whatever reason, injury/suspension, not counting his rookie year, he's missed 23% of his games. He is also in a rotation (see below) again from Paul Kuharsky at ESPN (who is in favor of TN resigning AH at the $77M level)
"He gets dinged and you're probably not going to get 16 games out of him."
Probably not. But with certain players even 13 games is worth it, and he's one of them. The fact is he's not the durable, every-play guy. The Titans rotate their linemen and know how to get the most out of him when they have him. He's going to need a trainer's assistance on the field at least once a game. It's part of the package. Name all the teams that wouldn't be willing to live with it in exchange for the payoff when he's out there.
I'm not paying $ 80M + for a guy that isn't a "durable, every-play" guy. I'm hoping and praying this is just an agent using the Skins for leverage again and Smootsmack is wrong. Unfortunately (in this case), Smootsmack is right a lot more often than he's wrong.
44ever 02-24-2009, 10:13 PM Im not sayin he's not a great player, he is. I just think we can spend more wisely. But if he's signed so be it. I'll still watch.
Hey DirtyLandry, How long have you been watching/fan of the Skins? If you don't mind.
53Fan 02-24-2009, 10:15 PM Not even close. In fact I've heard comparisons on ESPN that this #92 could be the most dominant D lineman since an old #92 played in Greenbay. I'm just sayin.
It was also said that if he played DE exclusively he would be the best DE in the NFL. If he had Reggie Whites heart I don't think there would be any doubts. But hey, I don't know the man. He is definitely a force to be reckoned with.
dirtythirty 02-24-2009, 10:15 PM I would love to see #92 in burgandy and gold but not w/ a 100 mil contract with 40mil at signing. We should focus on our bigger needs. Cant wait to see how it unfolds.

Agent: No deal between Haynesworth, Redskins
Posted: February 24th, 2009 | Adam Schefter | Tags: Albert Haynesworth, Washington Redskins
After receiving more than 30 telephone calls and e-mails Tuesday from members of the Washington media regarding a potential deal between his client and the Redskins, Albert Haynesworth’s agent, Chad Speck, felt the need to publicly address the situation.
“Albert is not allowed to have a deal with another team, and he doesn’t have a deal with another team,” Speck e-mailed Tuesday night. “We continue to keep the lines of communication open with Tennessee. The rumors suggesting that a deal is in place between Albert and the Washington Redskins are completely false.”
What is true is that the Redskins are one of a handful of teams that will have interest in Haynesworth. But for whoever signs him, it isn’t going to cheap. Haynesworth widely is expected to become the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history, with a deal that will defy today’s economic hardships and send tremors around the league. The deal could wind up including a signing bonus in the vicinity of $40 million dollars. Washington will have interest. But so will Detroit, Tampa Bay, Tennessee and others.
And the big question as free agency opens Friday will be what is Haynes-worth?
