If we get Haynesworth, there's no point to bringing them both back. No reason at all.

Haynesworth will miss his usual 2-5 games per year and and so will Griff. If Haynesworth scheduled his time off the same week Griffin was injured, we'd be starting Alexander and calling Boschetti to do his annual un-retirement thing. Its a bit risky letting them both go, but 2nd round picks would be enough for me to accept the risk.

That said, I think Tampa Bay has done enough today to essentially inform the league they plan on signing Haynesworth to the biggest contract in history of football and taking a 35M cap hit in 2009 to do it... and when we play the bucs this year, our interior linemen can thank them giving Haynesworth so much money so that he's no longer motivated to try and knock the living crap out of them.

Here's what TB did:
Tampa Bay Buccaneers release Derrick Brooks, four other veteran players - ESPN (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3933807)

edit: hadn't looked at the free agent thread when i posted this.

If haynesworth has any common sense, he'll come here because were not rebuilding like TB, plus if he does sign with TB a year from now he could be asking for a trade or release because TB's gonna suck next year and is rebuilding so he should go to a team that is good and not close to rebuilding (us)

Woah. Try reading that sentence a few times in a row... I may dream about the word "rebuilding" tonight. :)

Seriously though, I think Haynesworth just wants a payday. He's looking for $$$ much more than he's looking for a winner.

While we are not in a "rebuilding" mode right now the Skins could be rebuilding very soon if some players don't step up, in that case we would be rebuilding our whole team and not just rebuilding our o-line, or maybe rebuilding the secondary if hall smoot and rogers all go away, thank goodness we are not rebuilding yet but rebuilding could start any day.

SWEET DREAMS GM ;)

With news of the salary cap increase, I am officially in favor of the Haynesworth deal.

Once I see the contract numbers, I'm sure I'll flip flop again.

Well hey at least this time we're overspending on a top tier lineman. Can't say I'm to crazy about his character and I also believe a lot of defensive problems stemed from a scheme issue but given that we have better personel on defense then the Titans minus Haynesworth I'd say the possibilities are pretty exciting. Now if they get the O-lineman that we need in free agency I'll be able to die happy. Of course at the same time I'm going to be against a new CBA hoping that the NFL adopts a baseball like system but at least the rumors about Vinny wanting to redo the lines are looking like they could have some merrit to them.
