Haynesworth fails conditioning test

So I went up to the high school to try my crack at this.... and its quite harder than I thought. Just to put it in perspective, I'm about 5'9, 200 pounds, not out of shape, but rocking a little beer gut... and I ran a 1/2 marathon about 7 months ago, so I would consider myself somewhat conditioned I guess....

I did it once, 75 seconds, which was a fail. The hardest part to me was the changing of directions. I did it again running 3 100 yard sprints down the football feild, changing directions at the goal line and did it in under a min... so the change in direction added nearly 20 seconds on it for me.

Granted I'm not a pro athlete making 20 million dollars, but it was a little tough.

Just got my answer:
RT @Rich_Campbell I'm hearing that Albert Haynesworth did not run this morning. Apparently he's resting.

I think this is a good choice. After military PT tests there was a day to recuperate for your body, and in the football season, the day after the game is usually a recuperate type day.I'm skeptical on how much lactic acid/soreness a pair of 300 yd shuttles would actually create, but Albert probably has been doing additional work in the teams' facility during practice hours, so that would explain the additional fatigue.

The first shuttle run is the easy part its the second one after the short break that's taxing.
Its not that hard to do but if you haven't done it before you'll make it harder on yourself because you'll go too fast or too slow in some portions you need a good steady pace.

-No worries Al will get it, i think Shanahan is effing with him a little.
I bet dollars to donuts that if all the DL & OL were doing it would under the same strict adherence to the time hacks as demanded by Shanahan Albert wouldn't be the only one person held out.

Correct me if i'm wrong but didn't Smoot, Davis, Thomas and Kelly all fail the conditioning test either last year or the year prior?

I don't remeber a day of rest after a PT test. And honestly a 3 mile run, 2 minutes of sit up, and pull-ups wasn't all that bad. The Air Force had it a little harder though with the stationary bike and all, they may have needed it.

Just joking, thanks to all for their service!

I have a hard time believing that AH was "resting." My guess is that the proper verb is "refusing." If so, expect a trade or suspension soon.

I'm not sure what the latest wisdom is on what an athlete should do the 'day after' an event, because it's been a long time since I've trained for anything. But I'm under the impression from talking to people that its generally not a good idea to do nothing the day after a game, race, etc. unless you just ran a marathon. I've heard the term "active rest" mentioned a lot in recent years, the idea being that you jog, bike or run lightly to get the lactic acid out of your system.

Of course we don't know what "rest" means in this case, but it does sound like AH might be gettin over. He could be this year's Portis, I'm glad Shanny has stuck to his guns so far.

It would be odd for a guy who ran the shuttle three times earlier in the week out of his own accord to suddenly just refuse to do it a few days later. The "bag of blubber" image is still in people's minds, no matter how wrong about it they could be.

I think you make an excellent point here. I saw an article by Tedi Bruschi of the Patriots who said that he would practice in the offseason for a similar test that the Pats gave each of their players at the start of Training Camp. He said he felt that he needed to practice for the test because he needed to get his pace right and to refine his technique. It seems that it's not just a matter of conditioning but that AH probably needs to practice for the test a little to get his pace and technique down.

Is Shanahan messing with him a little about the test? Probably. But Shanahan is so rules-based and exacting that I doubt that Shanny will relent any time soon and cut AH some slack if AH keeps failing the test.

I hope that AH passes the test soon so this doesn't become another issue between him and Shanahan. I think he will. At his point, after two failures to pass the test, I'd like to think that AH has too much pride as an athlete to let the test beat him.

BTW, having Haynesworth start out camp as a 2nd Teamer is a pure revenge move by Shanahan. After all, Trent Williams, a rookie who didn't know a thing about playing pro football, much les Shanahan's offense, practiced with the 1st Team on day one of his NFL career.

Don't misunderstand me; I'm not shifting over to Haynesworth's side. I still think that he could have compromised with Shanahan and acted like a better teammate during the offseason. But I also like to think that I'm fair-minded enough to call bullshit on Shanahan, as well, when his actions start to look like they may be personal rather than professional. To be clear, Shanahan demoting Haynesworth to 2nd Team was personal and it is bullshit.

My comments had nothing to do with AH being lazy.

If AH feels that Shanny is just f*&^ing with him, AH may just childishly refuse.

And if AH really wants a trade, he may childishly refuse.
