GusFrerotte 09-04-2011, 08:30 PM its all about upside... I really dont think they are going to the Super Bowl , so you might as well see if JB can be our qb for the next 5+ years..
Yeah right, a 30 year old journeyman QB that only started 4 games his entire career, is all of a sudden going to play like a franchise QB and lead us into the playoffs at some point in the next 5 years. And people think I am nuts for taking Frerotte as my screen name.

Stranger things have happened.
It's a shame he has not had any serious Pro bowl QB training.....like say sackin' groceries?
Perhaps in the off season......
What if Rex Grossman is actually ready to become a far more consistent QB?
Dude throws four td's against the Cowboys in a very limited audition last year behind a dysfunctional o-line and many many Redskin fans are still convinced that you know what you get with Grossman. Good and Bad.
Except Grossman hasn't gotten any kind of real shot with the Washington Redskins to even show if he has actually developed.
What if Grossman is in fact ready to be mostly good Rex?
Because a mostly good Rex Grossman is an ABOVE AVERAGE NFL QB.
Just for the record I don't even know if I like Grossman I just don't get why Beck gets the benefit of the doubt just because nobody has seen him play.
Grossman already has the experience making the same mistakes that Beck will invariably have to make if he is ever going to become a consistent NFL starter.
You left out the part about him throwing 2 picks and losing a fumble against Dallas.
He is what he is, hell we saw it this preseason. He's streaky as hell. I don't see where he's ready to become anything other than what he already is... Consistently inconsistent.
That Guy 09-04-2011, 09:03 PM still with grossman. i'd prefer peyton manning, but on the realistic side, grossman is average, they're both 30, so I don't see this insane upside with beck. grossman is 20-14 as a starter and looked better. Mike's going to play whoever he wants to play, but I think we win more games with grossman.
Bucket 09-04-2011, 09:10 PM Neither guy is great, but Grossman got a team to the SB, Beck can never say he did. Of all the QB battles and controversies we have had with the Skins over the time I have been a Warpather and even beyond, why do folks never wise up? Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. We have been fooled more than twice now, way more than twice if you go back to Heath Shuler. Why do you all think Beck is the better option? Just because he is more mobile than Grossman? Remember Vick at ATL? He was mobile as hell, but couldn't get the job done in the passing game. Grossman is Mr. Cool in the pocket, Beck is great in the bootleg. How many guys in the NFL went to the SB doing the bootleg all the time? Grossman has actually started more than one season worth of games. Mr. Beck only 4. I get razed a lot for taking Gus Frerotte for me screen name, as he was a mediocre QB, but at least he made the Pro Bowl, etc. This Beck doesn't look so much more promising the Gus, so why do you jump on the bandwagon so to speak? Grossman could elevate his game to starter status right away, while Beck is 30 and yet to be a regular starter. I understand why you aren't completely sold on Rex, but why do you think Beck is going to light it up or even just do better than Rex? His audition for the job hasn't been so hot.
I stopped reading when I got to that.. Mr. Cool int he pocket:laughing2
JoeRedskin 09-04-2011, 09:21 PM Can I just say that as I read through this thread my initial "good feeling" buzz from the preseason is fading fast. Let's face it:
As to Grossman, he has shown that when he is good, he is better than good enough to win. Unfortunately, both last year and in the preseason, he has shown (to me at least) that he hasn't shaken his bad habits. I saw nothing to convince me Bad Rex is tucked safely away in closet somewhere.
And then there's Beck, God help us all, he says all the right things, he has nice athleticism, a more than adequate arm and has the whole "late-bloomer" mystique working for him. Against Indy, he was terrific, he anticipated throws, had a nice quick release and really had a good tempo. But then Tampa happened - did anyone else watch him stare down receivers and make several "Dear God No!!!" throws?
I love the team except for the QB position and secondary. While I think the secondary may prove adequate, I am not so convinced about any choice made at the QB position.
In the end I don't think either guy is a savior, nor do they need to be. Our success is going to hinge more on our defense and running game. All we need is efficient QB play and someone who doesn't single handedly give away games.
NYCskinfan82 09-04-2011, 09:38 PM Who do I want to see start Beck, but I WILL CHEER for either QB. HTTR.
wilsowilso 09-04-2011, 09:42 PM I'm so sick of losing.
I know we aren't going to be world beaters this year.
I just hope whoever they pick really makes the most of the opportunity.
