AMBRIDGE, Pa. -- The books were uncovered in an old box Wednesday, and Kip Richeal called to say it was OK to stop by and grab one, free of charge. It never came close to being a best-seller, it almost didn't get published, and Richeal, the co-author, never liked the title. But Jerry Sandusky insisted. He wanted the book about his life to be called "Touched."
Richeal has a quiet job selling headstones at a monument company now, but his phone has not stopped ringing for the past six days. Sandusky, legendary assistant coach and pillar of the community, has been charged with 40 counts of sexual abuse to boys in a scandal that has prompted Joe Paterno's firing and rattled the state of Pennsylvania. Sandusky's name is toxic, and his movements are tracked. On Thursday, the State College paper reported that, according to a source, Sandusky was seen shopping at a Dick's Sporting Goods wearing Penn State gear, and a nation recoiled.
I dont know how much faith i put into the report that sandusky was really out shopping at Dick's yesterday like nothing happened but this guy needs to go back to jail asap, if only for his own safety. I give it a 50/50 chance that he doesnt take his life by the end of the weekend, maybe right after he watches the PSU Nebraska game from the comfort of his living room. Even if he doesnt kill himself for some reason hes gonna get severely hurt or killed if hes running around town and shopping at Dick's.

Ruhskins 11-11-2011, 05:02 PM So this guy and the Athletic Director are on leave. I wonder why they haven't been fired.

NC_Skins 11-11-2011, 05:50 PM So this guy and the Athletic Director are on leave. I wonder why they haven't been fired.
I'm willing to bet you anything that it's because of the "whistle blower" laws. I'm speaking of McQueary of course, but I have no idea why Curley or Schultz aren't canned unless they somehow fall under the same laws they as well. I imagine they are going through all the legality of everything before they just fire them right out.
Something this big was bound to have whispers. (even from when the police investigated in '98) So wonder how many Board of Trustees knew as well?
SirClintonPortis 11-11-2011, 05:57 PM McQueary is the worst in all of this (save the obvious choice of Sandusky). He saw a 58 year old man sodomizing a kid. He was apparently 28 years old at the time 6'4 200 something pounds. I don't know about you but in a fight I would have thought that McQueary had the upper hand.
I mean if he had seen him naked in the showers with the kid that would have been one thing, because even though thats inappropriate it still leaves a little room for reasonable doubt. However from what I'm hearing he actually saw the rape and there is nothing to misinterpret about that situation. He caught him red handed and rather then saving the kid from a feeble old man he ran and left that kid to suffer through more abuse, not even calling the police. That is unacceptable.
Apparently one of the alleged reasons as to why he isn't being fired is to avoid any further liability. A university firing a whistle blower is apparently a great way to get sued.

"Golly gee Joe Pa this is great. Putting my career ahead of the needs of that 10 year old boy......totally worth it"
I doubt McQueary is a unique case, nor is his cowardice "special" to him. I would suspect most of the outraged wanting his head would have, given a purely "tabula rasa" state of mind prior to such an incident, behaved similarly. This is not to excuse McQueary, but to point out that the many talking heads crucifying him for his non-escalation of violence would likely not have resorted to violence in their own right, despite their own self-perceptions to the contrary.
NC_Skins 11-11-2011, 06:01 PM I tell you what. The Patriot News is on top of things. I applaud them for their professionalism and for their journalism.
A Patriot-News Special Report: Who knew what about Jerry Sandusky? There were many missed chances to investigate as early as 1995 | PennLive.com (http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2011/11/who_knew_what_about_jerry_sand.html)
The earliest documented report of possible abuse at the hands of Sandusky is in 1995, when his now-legally adopted son was still a teenage foster child in his home.
The adoption file for Matt Sandusky, who had a different name at the time, contains letters of concern from his mother to children and youth officials and to a Centre County judge.
Matt’s biological mother, Debra Long, testified before the grand jury.
Matt, 33, is not one of the victims in the grand jury presentment, but he did testify before the grand jury.
Sandusky’s attorney, Joe Amendola, said Long is upset with Sandusky for helping her son and her allegations are not based in fact. Matt went to live with the Sandusky family after he was caught setting fire to a barn in 1995.
Children and Youth Services placed him with the Sandusky family at Jerry Sandusky’s request. He knew Matt through The Second Mile.
In his book, “Touched: The Jerry Sandusky Story” several pages are devoted to Matt.
“He became an instant challenge for me,” Sandusky writes.
Debra Long was allowed to visit her son only one-half day per month after he went to live with the Sanduskys.
About four months after he went to live with Jerry, Matt attempted suicide with a girl who was also staying at Sandusky’s house.

Ritchie Reacts To Sandusky Scandal - ESPN Video - ESPN (http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=7219531)
Jon Ritchie gives a emotional breakdown of his relationship with Sandusky and even says that knowing Sandusky the way he did, he probably would have reacted the same way as McQueary initially due to the shock factor.
He then goes on to say that once it sunk it, that's when he would have taken it to the proper authorities or at least followed up once his superiors did nothing.

McQueary tells PSU wideouts he's out as coach and in "protective custody" | PennLive.com (http://blog.pennlive.com/davidjones/2011/11/mcqueary_tells_psu_wideouts_he.html)
Penn State's deposed receivers coach Mike McQueary, today placed on what the school called "administrative leave," moments ago told his receivers on a brief conference call that he was in "protective custody" at a secluded location not in State College.
Also, Sandusky was recruiting for Penn State last year is seems, and since the newsbreak the recruits have been jumping off Penn State's sinking ship.

SirClintonPortis 11-11-2011, 06:48 PM He's VP of Finance. Usually some stiff overseas the police department, but usually has 0 to do with law enforcement or making sure things are processed. That's how it is here at ECU and most likely that way across the nation. People want to say "well he was in charge of the police department", but that doesn't fly. Police officers are bound to different duties than say some guy of finance.
Fair enough then. But even so, Schultz broke Pennsylvania law by keeping his mouth shut.
