MTK 07-23-2012, 09:15 AM NCAA hands out punishment for Penn State's handling of Sandusky case – USATODAY.com (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/bigten/story/2012-07-23/ncaa-penn-state-punishment-sanctions/56427630/1) Daseal 07-23-2012, 09:29 AM PSU football is dead. PSU may go bankrupt once the civil suits start flying. NC_Skins 07-23-2012, 09:36 AM Penn State just got shit on. Since they vacated all their wins since 1998, does that mean the leader in all-time wins reverts back to Bobby Bowden? edit: guess so Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter RT @darrenrovell: Paterno's new win count is 298. .... 12th all time. Faux John Madden @FauxJohnMadden After today Penn State is now on a 175 game losing streak. Monkeydad 07-23-2012, 09:37 AM 4-year Bowl ban, vacated wins to 1999, 5-year probation, reduced scholarships...slap on the wrist. Vacated wins mean nothing to current players or the dead coach...and most importantly to the victims. A crappy football team and no New Year's vacations for the Paterno worshippers does little to teach them a lesson. They're still getting what they discarded childrens' lives to protect...Penn State football on Saturdays. I thought the only way to teach them (the University and the blind, rabid worshipers) a real lesson is to take away PSU football for a while so they can realize how bad it really was and what SHOULD be important in life. Disappointed. At least that bronze idol has been yanked down. JoeRedskin 07-23-2012, 09:37 AM The football program is still intact. To me, that is wrong. SmootSmack 07-23-2012, 09:39 AM This is no slap on the wrist. The program was killed without being officially declared dead NC_Skins 07-23-2012, 09:44 AM The football program is still intact. To me, that is wrong. Personally, I'm surprised they did this much. I would have shut down their program this year, and then imposed these following sanctions following this year. Realistically you knew they weren't going to end the football program even though it should have ended it. Daseal 07-23-2012, 09:49 AM What recruit is going to go to Penn St. with no scholarship and no chance at the postseason? I believe this is more detrimental to the school than a 1 year ban. I would have liked to also see them open up free transfers for current players without the waiting period to let current players get out. Monkeydad 07-23-2012, 09:53 AM This is no slap on the wrist. The program was killed without being officially declared dead The PSU fans will stil be tailgating and the University will still fill the seats every Saturday home game. To many of these Paterno apologists, nothing will be different to them other than the scoreboard. They'll continue to do their annoying "WE ARE...PENN STATE" chant and who knows...they'll probably rally and up their contributions to try to make up for what they feel is an unfair punishment. The Paterno shrines are STILL up where I work. It's disgusting. They're still denying Paterno or anyone other than Sandusky did anything wrong. They want the Governor investigated to distract from the real investigation on Paterno. They're crying about the statue. They learned NOTHING, nor will they as long as the team is suiting up...it will be business as usual. Maybe those outside of PA don't understand how crazy and obsessed these PSU fans and alumni are. It's cult-like. It makes Red Sox nation look like a book club. They literally make it their religion and are blind to reality. You never could say anything negative about Penn State (which I always have because I see the University for what it is...a state-funded party school for people who can't get into PA's better colleges). Trust me, these "punishments" won't teach anyone a lesson. Sure it will reduce their profits and hurt their team's record on the field. They'll still pretend Paterno is the all times win leader, they'll still cover their cars and yards with blue and white merchandise and they'll still come into the offices on Friday mornings doing their stupid chant. I know these people. Like Matt Millen just said, what this really affects is recruiting. That's the PSU mentality...football trumps all, even the lives of children. NC_Skins 07-23-2012, 09:56 AM Somebody posted this on craigslist. Slightly Used Joe Paterno Statue (http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/art/3157249882.html) Also, Big Ten is going to announce their sanctions at 11am EST. |
