SkinzWin 03-03-2012, 11:01 PM Well to go off what you are implying, lets say RGIII is a bust. It takes the team 3-4 years to finally make the decision not to give him another chance. We trade four to five draft picks for him, and slug along for 4 years never accomplishing more than we have in the last three years. Going through a HC or two in the process. Just saying. There is risk to it all, and this is what this decision is going to be either way. For me I see the risk in signing PM to a deal is what you said above: two years and he is done. BTW if we only get two years out of him because he is never gets fully heathy. This would get us in position to fix the problem again. RGIII is not the only good quarterback to come out over the next few years. The reward is getting 4-5 good to great years out of him, and winning a lot of games between now and then. Trust me I get RGIII. If we were drafting in a position to draft him, I would draft him. BUT Peyton Manning's don't hit the market to often. 1. To fix the problem again we would have to trade up in a future draft to get a franchise QB, so what is the difference? All we have done is delayed the gamble. 2. You really think PM is going to play an elite level until he is 41? Get. Real. He will be 36 in a week or two and has had major neck surgeries. SkinzWin 03-03-2012, 11:08 PM how is a healthy peyton manning not a good fit anywhere? Because you have to change the scheme to fit him. Does Mini Shanny seem like he is willing to change his precious scheme to fit any player? Doubtful. The bootleg and perimeter passing game play to the strengths of RG3. The bootleg and perimeter passing game play to the strengths of RG3. I don't disagree. But I would hope that Shanny Junior could work with Manning. You don't make the greatest QB in history, a QB who could also be your OC, fit your system - you make your system fit him. Whether L'il Shanny can do that is an interesting question. EARTHQUAKE2689 03-04-2012, 12:05 AM Does anyone else think the Rams trade the pick before the draft? artmonkforhallofamein07 03-04-2012, 12:11 AM saw a mock that had us snatching blackmon at 1:6, and grabbing weeden with our 2:7. i really wouldn't mind that gimme that plus Manning and I would be ecstatic. artmonkforhallofamein07 03-04-2012, 12:21 AM 1. Ok, I am not sold on trading away four top draft choices in this and next years draft for RGIII. I am much more inclined to take a chance with money and save our picks (possibly acquire more in a trade back) have another solid draft and sign PM. 2. If you read my post I was simply giving the best case scenario for what we get out of him. Do I really think we could get that out of him? He could play until he is 40. So that would give you 4 years. I would feel safe in saying three good years in him, in those three drafts you find a guy, and groom him to take over. BTW there may be a player in this year's draft that could be the next Matt Schaub or insert late round draft pick who is now a hot RFA and FA this year. GusFrerotte 03-04-2012, 12:25 AM I voted for the RG III Grossman choice since it is the only one that made any sense. I think giving up the bathtub and kitchen sink for RG III is a huge mistake, as we very well will have more holes to plug going into the draft as we currently have. We tagged Davis, but can lose Fletch, etc. Losing Fletch would be a big blow to the D and would mean either a FA LB or a draft a MLB. We really need 2 LBs to shore that corp up to be honest. We need the picks to rebuild, unless you RG III freaks want to have a few more lousy seasons. The kid is talented, but like Cam, without a decent supporting cast, he isn't going to win anything. Manning had his supporting cast stacked for ages. Also, do you think RG III is going to have half a chance with our O line? He will be running alright, running all the time and getting whacked good over the course of a 16 game season, if he survives it. Don't get me wrong I would love to get RG III, but damn multiple high round picks? C'mon now guys. Our starting O line consists of second stringers posing as starters. Our Dbs are substandard anymore and two of our wideouts are turning into candidates for the geriatric ward. Continue to upgrade the oline and the DBbs. I would utilize both the draft and FA to do this. I just think we could use a youth infusion still. GusFrerotte 03-04-2012, 12:29 AM I totally agree with you Art. I don't think RG III is going down. I think Bruce Allen is helping out his friend in Saint Louis by raising the stakes. Of all the scenarios I hear the best one thus far is us trading DOWN for the 20th pick to get Weeden or maybe Tannehill and get an extra pick. RG III is the "sexy" pick, but our O line still is substandard compared to most of the league. IF RG III starts behind this bunch of bums he won't last 2 seasons without getting hurt. artmonkforhallofamein07 03-04-2012, 12:46 AM I don't disagree. But I would hope that Shanny Junior could work with Manning. You don't make the greatest QB in history, a QB who could also be your OC, fit your system - you make your system fit him. Whether L'il Shanny can do that is an interesting question. I would seem to think that MS and KS would know how to work with Peyton. KS had to watch Manning beat his Texans plenty of times to respect what he does on the football field, if you think about it PM has been calling plays in the NFL longer then KS has. |
