Some of the positions coaches need to go. Slowik should not be coaching linebackers and really doesn't have a place on this staff unless its special teams coach. Kerrigan and Rack have regressed IMO. Mike Singletary or Monte Coleman, Someone who played the position and talk about secondary move to get to the QB

Its all those given away draft picks and young players that might have been Skins who might now be leaders on this team. Of course its impossible to know what might have been I feel like the Skins could have built their future through the draft and develop their team the way other successful teams do. Kind of like compounded interest on a savings account.

Of course that's assuming they would have hit home runs on all those picks.

Besides, every new regime typically turns over a roster within a few years as they bring in their own guys.

This is clearly Mike's mess right now. Whether he gets to stay on to clean it up is the question.

Or Manny Diaz formerly of Texas would be a good add

Well said, and all those factor add up, even though it seems like there are people who discount all or some of it. I don't know about an extension, but it sure seems like MS ought to get to finish his contract. This may be more of a perception thing than anything, but I feel like adding a number of small excuses together just gives you a larger pile of excuses. As opposed to something more substantial like a pattern. But again, that's probably a perception thing. Ultimately, it's going to be results that fuel decision-making.

The cap hit, previous regime mistakes, or anything else "circumstantial" has absolutely no bearing on team preparedness, discipline, intensity, clock management, current coaching failures (play-calling, scheme). In those categories, we're among the very worst in the league, and again they have nothing to do with anything pre-Shanahan.

But some of you are right, you/I/we don't know what the problem is at Redskins park or how it gets solved. The problem, and this really is what coaching is all about, is it looks less and less like anyone currently on staff knows how to fix it either. Week after week, season after season, we the same piss poor stuff.

I don't look at the things I listed as "small" or excuses. I just see them as part of the hand MS was delt.

I am also of the opinion that at least with the same HC we can keep as sense of continuity. I know that it can be said that why would we want to continue this, but in all fairness I want MS to have a fair shot at turning this around for SUSTAINED success and to this point I don't think we can say that.

I'm not surprised you see the draft how you do as the Skins are always so short on picks that they have to hit a HR on the couple of picks they have in order to get any benefit from the draft. That makes the fans think the if all picks arent HRs then the draft was a failure. The draft is not about hitting HRs on all the picks, its about having lots of picks to maximize the chance of hitting maybe 1 or 2 HRs.

This is Shanny's team now but had Spurrier, Zorn & Gibbs not turned this team into a talent wasteland then MS wouldnt have had so far to go to bring this team back to competitive.

MS has finally gotten this team moving in the right direction and understand how to balance the draft with FAs. He should finish out his contract and see where the team stands then decide. The last thing this organization needs is to begin the revolving door and hot coach du jour again.

I agree.

Ok we're talking semantics now... so say we had even 2-3 quality players left from that time, is that enough to make a big difference now? There's no saying if those guys would even be around considering Shanahan has turned over 99% of this roster in his time here, as most coaches do when they take over a team.

I think there's so many variables involved and we're too far removed to be able to place any quantifiable blame with past regimes especially one as far back now as Gibbs.

Gibbs isnt totally to blame, he was one part of a long series of screw-ups and mismanagement. But like I said in an earlier post, instead of helping to dig the Skins out of their hole Gibbs dug the hole deeper.
