RedskinRat 09-14-2005, 03:28 PM I still believe that there is more to this than a simple yank of a QB.
Coach Gibbs knows what he's doing, because he's done it all before. He has people around him that he trusts implicitly, he takes their advice where it's needed to fill in a blank or provide more evidence for his hunch.
Bottom line: I trust the Coach, he has the pedigree.
But I still can't wait until Campbell starts for us some day.
ladyfan06 09-14-2005, 03:29 PM This is what it all boils down to for me:
If Gibbs came out and said Ramsey is starting this week, I would have supported the decision 110%.
Instead he came out and said it's going to be Brunell, and again I support the decision 110%.
He's doing what he believes is best for the Redskins. He's not trying to win a popularity contest, he's trying to win football games.
Do I think Brunell is so much better than Ramsey at this point, no I don't. But I guess you can call me a loyal soldier. I'm falling in line and standing behind the coach. If Gibbs says we're going to battle with Brunell at the helm this week, then Brunell is my guy.
Rather than trying to swim against the tide, I'm trying to put myself in Gibbs' shoes to try to rationalize the decision. I can understand arguments from both sides, but in the end I'm going to side with the coach and trust his judgement.
THIS IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN SAYING IN EACH FORUM, ALL OF WHICH HAVE BASICALLY FOCUSED ON THE QB CHANGE.
I AM A WASHINGTON REDSKINS FAN-300%. ALWAYS HAVE BEEN, ALWAYS WILL BE AND I AM GOING TO BE SUPPORTIVE OF MY COACH. I THINK EVERYONE IS TAKING THE CHANGE PERSONAL AND THIS IS NOT THE CASE. COACH GIBBS MADE A CHANGE THAT, AS A LOYAL 'SKINS FAN, I WOULD LIKE TO BELIEVE HE THINKS IS FOR THE BETTER AND SUCCESS OF THE TEAM. PERIOD...JUST SUPPORT THAT AND LOOK FORWARD TO WINNING GAMES.
WHO KNOWS-IF BRUNNELL DOES NOT PRODUCE, HE MAY BE OUT OF A JOB BY GAME 3 AND IN COMES ROOKIE, JASON CAMPBELL.
WHATEVER WINS BALL GAMES IS MY POSITION AND I THINK JOE HAS PROVEN TO THIS ORGANIZATION BEFORE, HE KNOWS HOW TO WIN BALL GAMES!
firstdown 09-14-2005, 03:32 PM 52 pages and we haven't settled this yet??? LOL ;)Another 52 and it will still not be decided. We have three views one who trust Gibbs decision and will stand by him and feel maybe Brunell may offer a little more, one that thinks Ramsey has not been given a chance, and another who thinks Ramsey is better than Brunell.
My conclusion is that if we are using Brunell as a way to rate Ramsey then we have set the bar might low for him. We know Brunell is running out of gas and just hope he has enough to finish the season with a little respect. So the only thing we have left is Campbell and he will be playing this year leaving Gibbs three years to make a run for the SB.We should have seen this coming back on the first day of the draft.
jermus22 09-14-2005, 03:35 PM I don't think anyone here was calling for brunell BEFORE the bears game, but it sucks that everyone's magically transformed their opinions overnight so they can continue to be gibbs apologists.
Relax, dude. I'm definitely one of those guys who wasn't calling for Brunell before the game, and personally I would've let Ramsey continue as the starter while keeping him on a short leash for the next two or three games. But I also realize that Gibbs deserves our confidence after HOF induction and getting three Super Bowl rings. And Ramsey did turn the ball over three times in 19 minutes! I'm not saying your opinion doesn't count, but the truth is this: 1. you haven't been in all the team meetings, 2. you haven't been in the locker room, and 3. you've never coached the Washington Redskins. It's cool if you wanna disagree with people on this site, but you don't need to bash on Gibbs.
illdefined 09-14-2005, 03:35 PM just a small test of your faith: did everyone support the coach 110% in keeping Brunell for all of the 9 games last year?

HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY....NO, I WAS LIVID AT HIM ALLOWING BRUNNELL TO STAY IN THE GAME BUT AT THE SAME TIME, I FELT THAT HE WAS TRYING TO GET A SENSE OF CONTINUITY GOING EVEN THOUGH IT APPEARED THAT IT SHOULD NOT HAVE TAKEN HIM 9 GAMES TO DO SO, BUT SO BE IT....THAT WAS HIS FIRST SEASON AND HE NOW HAS HAD THE REMAINDER OF 04-05 TO LOOK AT BOTH QUARTERBACKS, 2005-2006 SCRIMMAGE/PRE-SEASON GAMES NOW TO MAKE THAT CALL AND THE BOTTOM LINE IS HE HAS MADE THE CALL TO START BRUNNELL.

You know what, I didn't like it but I respected the decision.
You can't blame all the offensive woes on Brunell for that stretch. We had problems across the board. The offensive line, playcalling, schemes, execution, etc.
To say the entire team was sparkling and Brunell was the only thing dragging down the team just isn't accurate.

Absolutely not. I wanted a change well before game 9; well before our season was essentially shot. It was pure agony watching that pitiful offense with Brunell at the helm last year. I had come to the conclusion that he would never be yanked and was shocked when he finally put Ramsey in. Like a fool, I thought that the move to Ramsey really meant something, like maybe Gibbs was finally seeing what all the rest of us had seen all season long in that Brunell was a bust. Obviously, Gibbs' awakening was short-lived.

Absolulty not, I didn't even support the trade for the guy!

thanks for being honest, hope there's no reason people wouldn't be. after this week, i don't think QB continuity is a major concern for coach Gibbs. and people here constantly remind us that it's not his first season, because he has 3 Super Bowl rings etc. etc.
i do consider last year his first season BACK in a new NFL, and he'll need time to adjust (as many years as he wants in my opinion). but then what still has me worried is where was his first year lesson learned??
