Let's talk good beer

Great beer weekend for me, as I was able to knock off 2 more breweries from my MD distribution list.

Every month, Flying Dog hosts a Happy Hour and Movie at a classic theatre in Frederick (http://flyingdogbrewery.com/weinberg/). This past Thursday they showed The Blues Brothers and were giving samples of their latest Brewhouse Rarity: Mexican Hot Chocolate Stout. Which I found a bit underwhelming. The spices used came and went very quickly, and the chocolate flavor wasn't up to par. During the hour before the movie, Flying Dog beers are $3 (They change each month, but they had K-9 Winter Ale, Pale Ale and Raging Bitch). After the movie, went to BWW and got an Antietam 1605 Red Ale (http://www.antietambrewery.com/beers.html) and DuClaw's Dirty Little Freak (http://www.duclaw.com/beer/dirty-little-freak/). The red ale was good, while the DuClaw beer was ok. Took some getting used to, but enjoyed it. Still like Maui's Coconut Porter better.

Went to a great beer store (http://downtowncrownwine.com/) Saturday night on my way to dinner with my wife and another couple. They have 12 beers on tap that can be purchased in samples/pints/growlers. Tons of different beers and wines. Glad I had a limited budget, as I could have spent hours and a ton more money in there.

Peak Organic was doing a tasting, so I tried 4 of their wares: Fresh Cut (Hoppy Pils), IPA, Nut Brown, and Hop Noir (Black IPA). All were tasty, with my fave being the Hop Noir. Ended up with a 6er of IPA and a 6er of Nut Brown. Also got bombers of Southern Tier's Creme Brulee, Lagunitas Cappuchino Stout, and a quart of Lagunitas Sucks.

After dinner (where I had a few Lagunitas Little Sumpin' Sumpin's), we went to a local brewpub, where I had their oatmeal stout (http://www.brewers-alley.com/beer/oatmeal-stout/). Tasty, with a nice toasty oat flavor. Then ran to another bar, where I had Sierra Nevada's Hoppy Lager (http://www.sierranevada.com/beer/seasonal/beer-camp-hoppy-lager). Awesome beer. Could have had many more of these.

Last night for the game, I had a few Peak Organic IPAs and a can of Red Shedman's Pump House IPA (http://redshedman.com/), which was tasty. Local vineyard that also does hop farming and brewing. Gonna have to go visit now after trying their beer.

At noon today, I'm running over to Flying Dog to get a few bottles of their bottle aged Gonzos (http://flyingdogbrewery.com/2015-barrel-aged-gonzo-imperial-porter-release/). They did half in bourbon barrels and half in rum barrels.

And then I won't be able to buy beer for a while...

Yeah, I need to try that Sierra Nevada Hoppy Lager, it was staring me down in the beer aisle the other day. Went with a local brewery IPA.

Bud is trash, I don't care if this comes off snobbish but if Bud is your weapon of choice I think less of you as a human.

idk. every beer has its moment.

i drink a cold bottle of budweiser or can of natty bo - tailgating, day time party outdoors during summertime, partying at beach, airplane or you walk into a bar and they have a very limited selection.

dumb commercial on budweiser's part.

----

sierra nevada hop hunter ipa - i went to one craft beer store and they didnt have it as of yesterday. coming to shelves soon i suppose. i hope it doesnt cost over 8 bucks a bumper.

this new beer 51 Rye ipa from monument city brewing is taking off.

its a brand new brewery from balt city and it is selling out so quickly i cant find it in stock in balt city. i wasnt sure if it was the homer in me, but i put 51 rye above union jack and a notch below sculpin. it is effing delicious.

yesterday im at a craft beer store talking beer with a veteran craft beer employee and he sd, as an alternative since they were out, to try sculpin.

this kinda confirmed to me that 51 rye is as good as my homer taste buds are telling me it is.

51 rye. if you see it, dont pass it up. they cant keep up with demand right now it seems, but once they move out of the co-op and into a bigger place, they can become as big as they want to.

great divides new brewers choice 12 pack consists of - titan ipa (which tasted unusually flat despite a brew date of 1/6/15), lasso ipa (always awesome), denver pale ale (english bitter - good clean crisp) and hibernation ale (classified as an "old ale" but tastes a lot better than most old ales which usually taste like crap malt overdoses)
