Cosell Talks: Matt Flynn and the Art of Quarterbacking : NFL Films Blog (http://nflfilms.nfl.com/2012/02/23/cosell-talks-matt-flynn-and-the-art-of-quarterbacking/)

Cosell knows his shit

I don't know him well enough to doubt him. His write up is good, but not much different then what everyone here has said. Those who think Flynn sucks like to point to his only two games, and the fact he's only a backup for a reason. Those who like him like to point out he's healthy, has a strong arm, and had one good game.

I love this though

Flynn is a member of a much larger quarterback fraternity, players who need to be coached and managed to maximize the skills they possess. They must be defined and enhanced by the methodology and the concepts of the passing game. That’s the way it works in the NFL for 80-90 percent of its quarterbacks.

To me this is true of all QB's. To me no QB is perfect, it's about maximizing their best qualities and minimizing their faults. Our problem is the Redskins have not seemed to have a decent coaching staff that will do exactly this since Schottenheimer. It has seemed like every HC has expected the QB to fit into their mold of a scheme. Grossman is not mobile and with the OL the way it was he looked bad. Beck the more mobile QB seemed to sit in the pocket more and the roll outs were limited. Now I suspect the lack of roll outs was due to the defense we were playing each week and their ability or possible flexability or speed to be able to counter it which might be why we did utilize it more but if that was the case then they should have stuck with Grossman and found a way to add protection or help out the OL.

But in any event if RGIII is picked up he will have to be managed also. Atleast until he can fix his small issues. Footwork, throwing motion and release, reading defenses, taking the ball from under center, and going through "all" his progressions vs. only staring down his first and then running.

1- no. Cosell could have said nothing but a glorified endorsement, I was commenting on the quoted part that was posted here. He seemed to have a very negative view of Flynn based off of what he quoted and what he quoted which perhaps I misunderstood seemed to be a break down of Flynn from when he was coming out of college and the poster here compared him to McCoy. Personally I think Flynn is 10X better then McCoy.

2- I didn't post it because I was on an electronic device that would not allow me to give the hyperlink.
2012 NFL Free Agents: Predicting the Worst Contract at Every Position | Bleacher Report (http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1076145-2012-nfl-free-agents-predicting-the-worst-contract-at-every-position)

Fair enough

Basically they are commenting on the fact that these players will probably get big contracts but will they live up to them. or are they worth it.

Predicting the Worst Contracts as a Headline was probably a give away that the writer doesn't think they're worth it

I never said glowing endorsement though I said a decent fair comment. I'm just not a fan of McCoy I guess, but the comparison to Kolb is more accurate I believe. Now I really don't like Kolb because I really think he sucks and had proven it in the 16 games with the Eagles over the yrs he was with them. Flynn has only had 2 games, 1 half decent, and 1 really good game against a really good defense. It's that really good game to me that says a lot. He can play in the NFL, he can make all the throws, he has pocket presence, he can manage a game. The flip side is can he do it for 16 games? and no one has the answer for that but no one can say that about RGIII, or Tannehill, or Luck, or Weeden. The others have not even shown they can manage 1 game in the NFL let alone 16.

So you'd like to take a chance on a guy who believe is accurately compared to Kevin Kolb...who you don't like and think sucks?

I would rather trade to 3, we can't top the browns if they want to go to 2, but if RGIII is sitting at 3, I would pull the trigger on a multi-pick deal to get ahead of them at 4.

?

Look folks. "IF" the Browns are infatuated as some say with RGIII and they really want him... they are going to get him. Right now they are in talks with the Rams, but lets say the Rams are like "no, we want to draft a OL to protect Bradford", fine then the Browns are going to start talking to the Vikings because they are not going to let the Skins jump ahead of them and take RGIII.

The Browns have the most ammo, the Browns will trade with whoever in order to get RGIII (if they want him) in order to keep us from getting him instead of them. I'm sure in the perfect world they too would love for him to fall to their draft pick, but he won't and they too are worried we will step up and make a play with the Rams so you might as well figure they will make a better offer to the Rams.

I just don't see RGIII falling to #3 or beyond. If the Rams don't want him then they are going to go out and get the best deal they can get whether it's with the Browns, Skins, or Dolphins or any other team for that matter. The Browns just have the most ammo right now.

My terrible Mock:
1- Colts-Luck
2- Browns- RGIII
3- Vikes- Blackmon
4- Bucks- Claiborne
5- Rams- Kalil
6- Skins- Weeden

I know this is not everyone idea and not mine either but I believe if we don't take him at #6 and trade back which is what I want ... I'm affraid Miami will take him. I think they are interested in Weeden also.

My comparison of Kolb is not so much his skills (which I think suck) but rather his situation (over the comparison of him and McCoy). I guess both arguements could be correct and I'll apologize. His skills they are comparing to McCoy, but I think Flynn looked better, In the article I'm providing they are comparing him to Kolb because they both are/were back up QB's and did and most likely will get paid big bucks and the question is are they worth it? I saw enough of Kolb to say no. Flynn on the other hand is a question and in my little dream world I had us simply out bidding the other teams who would want him but I didn't figure on a 56 mill over 5 yr deal.

The only one I would see going #6 would be Tannehill, and I think even that is a stretch.
