30gut 02-20-2012, 03:02 AM Try to get RG3, but if that doesn't work, go pluck around the other 32 teams for players that teams have soured on after pouring considerable resources into.
My preference is Henne, but this would defend Orton coming here as well.Orton is only a stopgap at best in my eyes.
Although he's clearly better then Rex, I view him as a player that's peaked and has a clearly defined ceiling.
(never mind that he was available twice last year and signing him now would be admitting that last year was a needlessly wasted season)
I think our main threats for acquiring RGIII are the same places I would look to find an interim starter for a rookie QB while still providing the upside to develop into a bona fide starter themself.
If the Browns or Dolphins acquire RGIII I would happily see their former QBs on our roster (behind Peyton Manning ;)) or under center next year.
But I wonder if the Shanahan's have enough cache left with the fanbase to make that type of move without placing themselves firmly on the hotseat?
I would love to have Colt McCoy for a 4th round pick.
#56fanatic 02-20-2012, 07:26 AM Figured it was time for a new QB thread. Here are 8 FA QBs (including restricted) and 8 non-Redskins teams they've been associated with
Peyton Manning-Arizona Cardinals
Matt Flynn-Cleveland Browns
Drew Brees-New Orleans Saints
Brian Hoyer-New England Patriots
Chad Henne-New York Jets
Josh Johnson-Seattle Seahawks
Kyle Orton-St. Louis Rams
Jason Campbell-Chicago Bears
I can see most of those scenarios, but Orton and Campbell?? I believe with the way they played last year, they will get a shot to start somewhere. Orton to back up Bradford, and Campbell to Cutler, that isn't a competition that is pretty much saying they are the backups.
Campbell and Orton will get a shot to start somewhere, or at least compete for the job.
Giantone 02-20-2012, 09:07 AM It still amazes that people think Manning is going anywhere but to retirement. He can't even throw the ball.
....and you know this how becuase what I hear is his short game is very good but he still needs alot of work in his long throws.
Giantone 02-20-2012, 09:11 AM Unless he takes chump change to go to the Giants to be with his brother.

...huh???
KI Skins Fan 02-20-2012, 09:37 AM If Cleveland wants RGIII, we have no chance. The deal that St. Louis could make with them is just too perfect for the Rams to be refused.
Here's why I say that. When I watch the Rams play, the overwhelming impression I get is that Sam Bradford gets no pass protection whatsoever. Pass protection is by far their greatest need. They must get a Left OT in this draft.
If the Rams deal with Cleveland, picking up two first round selections (#4 and #22), they'll get a LT and more.
Possible scenarios for the Rams after a trade with Cleveland:
1. Vikes take Blackmon. Rams take Kalil. Rams trade up from #22 to get OG DeCastro or stay at #22 and pick OC Konz. Rams pick best available WR in 2nd Round.
2. Vikes take Kalil. Rams take Blackmon. Rams trade up from #22 to get Martin. Rams pick OG Zeitler in Round 2.
There are many other possible scenarios, but I think you all get my point; with the #4 pick, the #22 pick, and more from Cleveland, plus their own high 2nd Round pick, the Rams could go a long way towards solving their OL problems and improving their WR corps. They would still get either Kalil or Blackmon (or they could draft Reiff) at #4.
That's not counting what they might be able to do in FA. For example, what if they signed Carl Nicks in FA and then drafted Kalil and DeCastro? That OL might become the best in the league after a couple of seasons.
celts32 02-20-2012, 10:04 AM Prediction for QBs on roster heading into training camp:
Brandon Weeden, Rex Grossman, John Beck, Nate Davis, G.J. Kinne
Hopefully there will be someone there to talk me in off the ledge if this happens...

If the Rams are that interested in QB protection, then they probably want to stay put and draft Kalil, since the Vikings are also on the market for a tackle. If this happens, then the price for trading up for RG3 may come down a bit. I agree though, if Cleveland really wants RG3, we are pretty much screwed on that end. Although I would rather have to trade for the #3 pick instead of the #2.

I will jump with you!
I swear I just love how fans seem to think they know what the other teams will do.
Browns getting Flynn? why? he'd be better served to go to Miami where his former coach went to.
PM to Miami? I doubt it. Seattle? I doubt it. Browns? their a hexed franchise. Redskins are about the only team who can out bid everyone and still pick up other FA's. Plus look closer to the playoffs vs. some of the other teams needing a QB. Unless he takes chump change to go to the Giants to be with his brother.
Hoyer will cost a draft pick. I'd make the trade if it was a late round pick like a 4th or later. Other wise keep the draft picks.
Orton, please don't get me started. Orton couldn't beat out Grossman in Chicago. We'd be better off keeping Grossman due to him already having knowledge of the scheme.
And yet you're doing the same thing.
Vinny? Is that you?
I'm not even talking about the Skins picking him up, just saying if I had to bet, my money would be on PM making a return... somewhere.
