This is what I've been trying to get at when I say I don't believe the gap between RG3 and Tannehill is huge

At QB, it's a matter of value - Rich Tandler's Real Redskins (http://www.realredskins.com/rich-tandlers-real-redsk/2012/02/at-qb-its-a-matter-of-value.html)

But, the skill gap between Tannehil and RG3 is huge. The value of what it will take to move up to draft RG3 versus taking Tannehill anywhere in the draft is even wider. His example hints taking Tannehill at 6th. To me that's shooting yourself in the foot.

if they are high on Tannehill and he is the QB they are targeting they might have to take him at #6. cant trade back to far in the 1st round, because still have dolphins and seahawks looking for a QB.

This is the key:

So, it’s not a matter of Griffin vs. Tannehill. It’s Griffin v. Tannehill plus whoever the Redskins could get in the second round this year plus the player they could get in the first round next year.

I would agree that Tannehill at 6 may be a bit high. I don't necessarily agree that the skill gap between RG3 and RT is significant. But that's just my opinion

Say RG3 ends up being in a group of the 4th to 8th best QB's in the NFL in a few years and Tannehill is in the next tear of like 10th to 15th. Would you rather have the pretty good QB with a couple picks that also become starters or would you rather have the better QB? I will take the better QB every time...

That's what it boils down to...your scenario makes perfect sense as long as you believe there is no significant gap between the QB's. There's just no way to sell that plan to someone who is convinced there is a gap.

Depends on what those other picks turn out to be.

In your scenario you have the better QB, but the team might be stronger overall with RT and the picks.

I read that but, reaching that far for any player offsets the value as well. If they value draft picks, keep them and draft without reaching so far. To argue your point why not consider drafting RG3 versus Weeden or Foles or Wilson and the other selections they'll have without having to trade away plus the added picks that could be picked up if the Skins decide to trade down? Now the value is put on the the talent and skill gap...

That's just it...I don't care...you can make both of the other picks as good as you want them to be and I will still take the elite QB. This is a QB league now...the teams that win consistently have the best QB's. Every team in the league is flawed in this era of free agency...you can work around everything except the QB position.

That was a respectful way to put it. I should try that.
