CRedskinsRule 03-27-2012, 09:23 AM All Goodell needs to do is send the message to the NFL that he did with his punishment with the Saints organization. That's all he needs to do. From that point, what's done is done. You have to have faith that the punishment is a loud and clear enough message to the other teams. From there, move on.
Getting back to the cap penalties, I'm not surprised the other 30 teams voted in favor of the sanctions. Why wouldn't they? They are getting a competitive edge in doing so. I have no idea what's going to happen, but I think things are going to get real ugly, real soon between the Redskins, Cowboys, and the NFL.
I don't think there is proof that 30 teams voted in favor, only that the move was upheld. And even that, in Goodell's press conference yesterday, while refusing to answer most questions, it seemed like he made a slip of the tongue where he said that no vote occurred (which contradicts the tweet posted earlier). I don't think it really matters, as the matter has been filed to the special master, and both sides will have to make their cases there. Since it doesn't sound like a backroom deal is going to get done, I think we have to accept that we will be stuck with the lowered cap at least for this off season.
NC_Skins 03-27-2012, 09:29 AM My understanding is that the figures being put out on Peppers is wrong, and that ultimately, his cap hit was like 20M each year including the uncapped year.
Regardless, the NFL is arguing pattern of behavior, not individual contract status. It's still a bogus claim, but it may be harder to disprove than simply saying well you approved them and that's that.
His cap year was at 19 million the year before with the Panthers, and only because it was a one year "Franchise" deal. Wasn't like it's been 19 mil per year for years. His 30+ million dollar cap figure for 2010 was definitely them dumping it into the uncapped year.
There were many teams that did this. It's hypocrisy to say the least.

It is hypocrisy, I agree. But Peppers numbers don't prove it:
It was not. Some reports about Peppers' contract structure were completely wrong.
These were Peppers' cap numbers when he signed --
2010 = $14,783,333
2011 = $12,783,333
2012 = $10,283,333
2013 = $14,283,333
2014 = $15,283,333
2015 = $17,583,335
that guy is their equivalent of our Schneed/CC and is very solid on his numbers.
I am not arguing the cap hit is bogus, anyone with half a wit can figure that out (except G1, who does have half a wit, just chooses not to use it on this issue), simply that Peppers contract numbers from Sporttrac were just wrong.

Gotcha. If those are the actual numbers then I take back what I said in regards to the Bears.

I agree. Which, I'll be just fine if we have to deal with the lower cap this offseason, as long as they make it right next season. The biggest thing is just righting the wrong that has happened.
mbedner3420 03-27-2012, 10:18 AM If they reopen the bounty case against us, how far are they going to go back? Buffalo?
I mean seriously when is there a statue of limitations? There has to be sketchy stuff that's been going on for years. If you start reaching that far back, you're going to open a HUGE can of worms.
Statute. Statute of limitations. It's not a statue. It's not a sculpture of limitations.
Sorry don't mean to pick on you, TheMalcolmConnection. It was just an opportune time to use a good Seinfeld reference. :)

It's going to be interesting to see what they do if the special master rules in our favor. $36 million in cap space next year does us no good this year. I'd love for the ruling to include a pick this year to account for our inability to approach free agency at full capacity but I know that's not gonna happen.

HA! You actually had me Google that term to make sure I had it right!
