Rotten1980 12-09-2014, 01:55 PM First off, you're missing my point. I'm not saying he's not a hard worker. I'm saying he pours the hard work in the wrong ways. He works hard in the weight room and on the physical, but he hasn't worked hard as a student of the game. Steve Young's comments on that matter should not be dismissed, the guy knows Mike Shanahan quite closely.
And secondly, his parents' jobs are an indicator of who they are and what they value. Which in turn shapes the way you're brought up. Have you not read story after story about how RG3 and his father would be out pulling tires up hills, or doing wind sprints during family gatherings?
You know what stories you don't read about? RG3 holding endless chalkboard sessions with his coaches, or picking the brains of accomplished QBs.
I'm picking up what you're dropping. But remember what someone said about RG really looking up to Rex for guidance, so I don't think it's that RG thinks he's above coaching/mentoring. Maybe he doesn't click well with everyone, not a crime or even a character flaw.
It still goes back to the HC knowing what/who he's got. Gruden missed on several things, finding a way to connect/mentor RG is a big one and what we all thought he was brought in to do.
Gruden's case would be a lot stronger if he had any success with another QB on the roster, or fielded an offense prepared to play.
Rotten1980 12-09-2014, 01:57 PM More pertinently, would you pay him $20M to go pound sand? I wouldn't if I were Dan.
We're stuck with him because of finances. But he sucks. I don't see much hope he'll get better because of the lack of discipline and wavering leadership.
As Redskins fans we all approach this thing with the thought that next offseason we'll fix this mess. I don't think we will. It sucks, but we're financially stuck with Gruden, and Snyder won't want to give up on RG3. Not sure I would either.
If I'm Dan I tell Gruden that he either keeps RG3 or he resigns without pay. And that's about the best you can make of this very bad situation.
That's pretty brilliant in my book.
over the mountain 12-09-2014, 02:04 PM i agree with a lot of Schneed's points .... but im pretty sure the DS telling a coach what to do will not end well for anyone, anywhere at any point.
since it is such a bad idea = what we will probably do
cant wait for this self-inflicted drama to end.
Schneed10 12-09-2014, 02:10 PM In fact, I think a strong leader would call both Gruden and Griffin into his office and put the cards on the table. Say listen Jay I'm into you for $20M so you're my coach. And Robert I still believe that you can become the QB we thought, and I don't want to give up on the massive investment we have in you.
But Jay, your success as a head coach in this league depends on whether you can get performance from Robert and the rest of the team. Robert, your ability to secure a second contract in this league depends on your ability to take coaching and improve, because you've been terrible.
Your wagons are hitched together. And my wagon is hitched to both of yours. Now go back to the sandbox and learn how to get along, get this thing turned in the right direction, or you'll both be moving on from these contracts. If you want other teams to look at you as worthy of a future big contract, you'll need to do this together.
You need each other or the world will view you both separately as failures.
Schneed10 12-09-2014, 02:12 PM And then I tell Jay to fire Haslett and I hire a football man as GM. Then I go party with Jerry Jones and strippers.
calia 12-09-2014, 02:12 PM Entirely as an aside (let's face it, there's nothing uplifting about our team) -- I like these: Navy Football Team to Wear Custom Uniforms for Army Match-up « CBS DC (http://washington.cbslocal.com/2014/12/08/navy-football-team-to-wear-custom-uniforms-for-army-match-up/)

I would love for this to happen! But in the world of guaranteed contracts, Gruden could easily say, "It's my way. Don't like it, fire me so I can collect!" I don't suppose there is a clause in Gruden's contract that says if the 'skins have the same record as the previous year, the contract is null and void? I seriously think the front office brass needs to seriously consider that as an opt out option in future contracts!

sucks for Jay that his wagon is hitched to a QB he didnt hand pick.

Then he shouldn't have taken the job.

It's not a real Redskins season unless there is more drama than wins.
