dmek25 09-03-2008, 09:48 AM he only crossed party lines because he thought he couldn't get elected as a democrat. what a joke he has turned into MTK 09-03-2008, 09:50 AM What does country first mean? It's another way of saying if you're not with us you're against us, or if you're against the war you're against the troops. You know, the typical uber-patriotic BS they try to push. FRPLG 09-03-2008, 09:52 AM I think the Country First slogan is meant to attrack those people, of which there are a pretty good amount, who think Dems are America's apologists. They think Dems have a negative view of our country as whole and the way we have done things both nationally and internationally and think we suck. It is a depiction that I don't all-together believe in but I understand why a good amount of people have come to that conclusion without much thought. SmootSmack 09-03-2008, 10:02 AM he only crossed party lines because he thought he couldn't get elected as a democrat. what a joke he has turned into To be clear, Lieberman hasn't officially crossed party lines. he's (I believe) an Independent Democrat. He votes with the Democrats most of the time, and sits as part of the Democratic Senate caucus. FRPLG 09-03-2008, 10:12 AM he only crossed party lines because he thought he couldn't get elected as a democrat. what a joke he has turned into He "left" the democrats because they threw him under the bus. They were the ones who decided to work against him so he couldn't get the nom in his own state. Then they get pissed because he runs as an independent and gets elected. It is that type of politics, that happens on both sides, that kills our system. A guy they nominated vor VP 6 years earlier suddenly doesn't agree with them on some issues and they scorched earth him. Talk about an "you either with us or against us" mentallity. FRPLG 09-03-2008, 10:13 AM To be clear, Lieberman hasn't officially crossed party lines. he's (I believe) an Independent Democrat. He votes with the Democrats most of the time, and sits as part of the Democratic Senate caucus. And they allow him to maintain his committee chairs so that they can maintain their majority. So it's OK to use him for that but otherwise he sucks to them. jsarno 09-03-2008, 10:30 AM It's another way of saying if you're not with us you're against us, or if you're against the war you're against the troops. You know, the typical uber-patriotic BS they try to push. Or do you possibly think they are referring to protecting this country from terrorism. Like how Fred Thompson pointed out how McCain voted for more troops to help the effort in winning even though it was a less than popular decision. Or how about taking care of the people instead of greatly increasing taxes? Again, like the speech pointed out, when you decide to greatly tax businesses, who do you think will actually pay for that? Or how about the fact that Obama is more interested in being popular around the world than being an actual proud american. (note my sig) Obama is in this for himself, not for the benefit of the country. (I'm sure many of you would love to debate that opinion, but we all know, what I am saying is going in one ear and out the other. This site has proven that when it comes to democrats, it doesn't matter what is said, you are sheep for your candidate. Fact is, the last 3 democratic candidates have been piss poor at best, when exactly are the Dems going to throw up a good candidate?) How anyone can not be moved by Fred Thompson's speech is beyond me. That was a great speech that had people crying in their seats. One of the best speeches in recent memory at a RNC. 5 1/2 years he was in a POW camp with broken bones, breaking ribs, pure torture, yet he didn't give them ANY info...he didn't break AT ALL, including refusing to go home because other people had been there longer than he has. I seriously doubt that Obama has that kind of strength and character. Obama gets upset when you talk about his kids (even though he showboats them any time possible) but the second McCain selects Palin, they are quick to attack her pregnant daughter. This is a vice presidential candidate here...it's fair play I suppose, but don't bitch and moan about your ability to father your kids then turn around and attack a VP candidate's daughter. ps- country first could also mean not allowing a 3rd trimester abortion to die in a linen closet with no medical attention like Obama would prefer. Slingin Sammy 33 09-03-2008, 10:33 AM I must admit Obama's coronation was spectacular, the only thing missing was the "Mission Accomplished" banner. I'm looking forward to the debates. :duel: Good stuff. SmootSmack 09-03-2008, 11:00 AM  Or do you possibly think they are referring to protecting this country from terrorism. I think that there are a lot of flaws in your argument that you may want to rethink. This coming from someone who leans politically in the same direction that you do. Though I don't think quite so far. dmek25 09-03-2008, 11:02 AM  Or do you possibly think they are referring to protecting this country from terrorism.
