It's a good conservative friendly pick. We'll see if she can attract women voters who are pro-choice. Should be interesting to watch her debate Biden.
Update: McCain Selects Gov. Sarah Palin as Running MatePages :

saden1 08-29-2008, 11:19 AM It's a good conservative friendly pick. We'll see if she can attract women voters who are pro-choice. Should be interesting to watch her debate Biden. Monkeydad 08-29-2008, 11:38 AM There has been talk of her for about 2 months among Conservatives, so this is not a sudden choice. I've done some looking into her background and I believe she is a solid choice. She's a mother of 5 children, one who has Down Syndrome who she chose to give birth to and raise instead of aborting. She's a solid Conservative who has a record of consulting with the state Constitution before signing any bills or vetoing them. She has a record of cleaning up government corruption in Alaska. Remember the "bridge to nowhere"? She will gain McCain the votes of pro-life conservatives, who he needs to win this race and also will get a lot of votes from the bitter and angry Hillary supporters who feel betrayed and said can't support Obama. Many were already planning on voting for McCain, this will seal the deal with them. While it's a smart strategic move, she is also very competent and is not entrenched in Washington's corruption. I felt McCain NEEDED to choose a Governor with actual experience in running a government from the top instead of another Senator. I thought it would be Romney but I love this choice. Maybe she'll even convince McCain to drill in ANWR. She could also attract the horndog vote: http://alaskareport.com/images/sarah_palin2.jpg http://www.i75.photobucket.com/albums/i294/serr8d/elected%2520politicos/SarahPalin_sm.jpg http://www.photos.state.gov/libraries/usinfo-photo/39/Week_4/120106-Palin-200.jpg http://www.palmerelks.org/images/wwp-photo2.jpg http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0dJ81lnfGm7dM/610x.jpg Monkeydad 08-29-2008, 11:40 AM I believe McCain is going after the pro-life people and the evangelicals. Mitt Romney changed his position a while back from pro-life to pro-choice and I think that hurt his chances as VP with McCain. Being a Mormon also works against him. The country does not know this woman and I believe it makes the Obama and Biden ticket a very strong force. We will get to know her in the next few months. But, I believe it will be an uphill battle for McCain with the general population. Republicans can only hope that Mrs. Palin comes on strong and confident and makes a great impression with people. Actually, the fact that the country DOES know Biden hurts Obama. Sheriff Gonna Getcha 08-29-2008, 11:40 AM I don't know a thing about her, except that she likes Moose burgers. I guess McCain is banking on the Hillary followers being petty, caddy (sp?) sore losers. MTK 08-29-2008, 11:44 AM The horndog vote huh. That's really something to strive for. But then again I'm sure it will work especially for those southern repub bubbas  hesscl34 08-29-2008, 11:46 AM I don't know a thing about her, except that she likes Moose burgers. I guess McCain is banking on the Hillary followers being petty, caddy (sp?) sore losers. Can you see Binladen taking her seriously? ... not that he takes anyone seriously, but don't you think a woman leading the US is the perfect situation in his eyes.. considering their beliefs about women? ... Having a son, the last thing I want is a woman leading this country during a war with terrorists. I hope John boy is taking his vitamins. I'm at a loss as to how someone can go from Hilary to McCain. Unless it's all about being spiteful over Hilary not getting in, or if it's flat out racism against Obama, I just don't get it. YEEEHAW djnemo65 08-29-2008, 11:50 AM The idea that such a solidly pro-life candidate would draw significant numbers of Hillary supporters from Obama just for being a woman is a stretch. I think more important is the reaction her nomination has gotten from the Christian right, who seem solidly behind it. SmootSmack 08-29-2008, 11:51 AM The horndog vote huh.
