I guess you felt the same way when Bush was getting pounded by the press for his response to Katrina. Ok, I know your answer. Bush did not respond quick enough etc........
Honestly, in hindsight Bush caught a lot of undeserved flak for what was an incredible disaster. Much like the crisis now though, the wheels of disaster were turning long before either one took office. The levees were a known issue and the gov't was well aware it was only a matter of time before a disaster of that magnitude happened. Was the response under Bush ideal? Of course not. Was it his fault? Not really. But of course as President he was going to take the heat, just like Obama is now.

The press is on him because it's a story, right or wrong they are going to blow it up because it's a good headline. The press making a story out of something really doesn't speak to the matter very much to me.
Well, usually I feel the same way. I think in this case however, he does deserve some criticism about his response and the whole golfing/baseball game thing. Of course, I hope he succeeds with his efforts at getting the well plugged and helping all the poor families and businesses getting crushed by this thing.
All the news reports and pictures are so upsetting.
tryfuhl 06-22-2010, 01:43 PM Read my previous post about how I think Obama should be spending his leisure time. I never said he had to spend 100% of every day working, or even working on BP for that matter.
Also, if they are going to blast Heyward, they shouldn't be such staunch defenders of Obama's golf game. Just don't say anything about Heyward if Obama is going to be at baseball games and golfing.
I think Heyward is a douche, and I don't condone either one of them conducting such public leisure with this crisis going on.

it'd be one thing if they were both heads of BP and one of them was absent from the job.. I mean unless you want Obama to pick up a pen and play legislator for a bit I'm not sure what his golf outing really changes

Indeed.. the president can't change policy and get all of the agencies rolled out in 2 hours or anything. I mean it takes weeks to prepare for the Super Bowl or Grammy's and it's known well in advance when they're coming up. I don't blame the response on Bush for the most part.

OMG. I feel like I'm beating my head against the wall. His golf outing doesn't change a thing as far as getting the leak plugged, obviously. What is does do however, is anger and worry a lot of people on the gulf coasts who have been devastated by this. It's poor timing by the president to be out in public enjoying himself eating hot dogs at baseball games and hitting the links. Again, I have no issue with him enjoying some free time. Just keep it in private for now. That is all.

hard to play golf in private when you're the president.. I mean I guess he could go to Camp David and hang out there.. but he only went for a round, not a week or anything
I'm not really sure who's that angered by it unless it just piled onto the frustrations of those already upset.. the straw that broke the camel's back if you will
tryfuhl 06-22-2010, 02:07 PM I mean I don't mind so much saying it's frustrating seeing him enjoying himself but to parallel that to "I want my life back" Heyward seems unfair. Yeah Heyward, the people working on the recovery effort want their lives back, the people in the region and affected by it want their lives back, etc. Maybe your time in FL makes you feel stronger about the issue with the President than maybe myself?
firstdown 06-22-2010, 03:45 PM Well just in Iran has offered to help Obama with the oil spill saying its a humanitarian effort. Will it be a hoot if Obama accepts thier help after turning down so many other offers for help.
Also a federal judge said that the other offshore rigs can start drilling again and lifted Obama's 6 month ban on drilling.
