I'n not sure that everyone here realizes how much the situation with Kirk has changed since he signed his franchise tag contract. Now, the Redskins can trade him to any other NFL team without his permission. The Redskins have no obligation to allow talks between Kirk and the other team to work out a long-term deal. They can simply trade Kirk and his one year $24M contract to another team as long as the other team is willing to take on his contract as it now stands. I don't know how realistic such a deal would be but the Skins could do it if they wished to do so.
It looks like the Skins want a long-term deal with Kirk but if the situation were to change they could trade him in a New York minute to a willing trade partner.
I apologize if I seem to you to be acting like a know-it-all or Captain Obvious.

No I agree, and after hearing the podcast I believe a deal is done verbally already.
I didn't read that from the podcast. And if a deal was done verbally it'd be done on paper a few days later.
I do think coming out of that conversation (referenced in the podcast) there is a mutual understanding that the Redskins intend to negotiate in good faith for a long term deal.
I think they'll get it done by July 14, but there's still a lot of dancing that remains.

Yeah they could, in theory, but nobody's going to give up significant trade compensation for a player unless they would be willing to sign a long term deal.
There's this silly notion that maybe the Browns would trade for him and then tag him next year. Ridiculous. Why would they pay to take on a headache like that?
He's not getting traded.

This board's intolerance for ambiguity is revealing. Too emotional, too reactionary.

Because it's the Browns. I don't see him getting traded anywhere, but that would be the 2nd most likely spot as of now. They have cap space galore to roll over next year if they have to tag him again.

If I was Cleveland and traded for him I'd tell him right upfront that he's getting tagged again next year too. So you're our QB for sure for the next 2 years at least.
But trading is steep, if I was them I'm drafting best QB available at #12. You walk away with Myles Garrett, and a possible franchise qb. I'd say that's a good 1st round.

What I meant about changing my mind about Kirk, was that I thought he had this attitude that he wanted to leave the team because he did not feel wanted and whatnot.
It sounds like this "wanting to leave" may have been overblown or it may have been a negotiation tactic from his camp. Who knows, but it looks like things are somewhat normal and they are just doing the typical negotiations.
In the end, I don't see what's so terrible about the team moving forward. I feel that with some of the acquisitions we've gotten and getting Kirk back under center, I expect us to be competitive again in the upcoming season.
I believe that as long as we keep Kirk (I do think he will sign a long term deal, especially after hearing his interview with Schefter) we are a better team today than we were at the end of the season.
Pryor and Doctson > Jackson and Garcon (especially for the money)
Baker was not that big of a loss, he was a lot of fun and my favorite player but he was overrated by our fan base

Someone's going to have to blow the Redskins away with a trade offer. Kind of like an RG3 type of trade. Then of course agree to a deal, just not going to happen.

Kirk is losing some fan base with his stubborn ways of not committing to this team. When asked by Adam S. "Do you want to be a redskin long term? " he said "I don't know the answer to that, I have to keep an open mind because things change in this league fast"... Dude just answer yes or no! He's like that one GF that just can't decide on what she wants to do with her life.. I like Kirk but man this gets old.
