The skins will have to pony more than $25m/year, that's the rumor around here. Cousins has better numbers than Carr if I'm not mistaken. This is not good.
It's all about the guaranteed money. Let's see how much of Carr's money is guaranteed. I think Carr is very much a comparable QB to Cousins.

Hopefully we can get the kid from
Wyoming if this doesn't pan out. I am not sure
Cousins is worth risking the building of the overall team if he asks for the moon. He has the crazy yardage stats, but he can't score in the red zone and throws ints at critical junctures of a game. I do want him signed, but not if we are going to have to let a ton of guys go in the near future that are balling. We can't expect to contend signing journeyman types to one year prove it deals on the cheap.

JLC reporting that the Carr deal is said to include $75M salary over the first three years. That would be the most $$$ ever paid an NFL QB over a 3 yr. period, exceeding the $71.3M due to Andrew Luck in his contract. That is an indicator of the range we should expect for a Cousins LTD. It's crazy money, I know, but it is also the market for NFL QB's.

I think this should give the Redskins comfort in giving Cousins the money he deserves. Before this Carr deal they had to feel like they were stepping out on a bit of a limb, giving Cousins so much would have made them feel like they were above the market for him.
But this shows that the market is going to keep increasing for quality QBs, as long as there are so few quality QBs in the NFL.
If I'm the Redskins brass today I'm feeling more comfortable. Yeah Kirk will be expensive, but other QBs are going to get paid too. They're not going to find themselves at a cap disadvantage compared to other teams - other QBs are going to get theirs too.

That's a good insight on this. I was wondering if the Carr deal would help or hinder the talks with Cousins. Let's hope a deal gets done soon!

I think the Carr deal means Kirk's going to have to be at or near that number, which hurts us as I was hoping to keep him in the 23-25 aav range.

I agree with this. I think the Skins didn't want to step out with a crazy number and open themselves up to criticism. If Carr gets this type deal, I believe the Skins will be willing to get to that same level. Carr and KC are pretty much around the same level.

The Carr deal is done.

Matthew Staffords camp was waiting on the Carr deal to get done too. Whatever Carr gets, Stafford is expected to get more. KC might wait to see what Stafford gets......this is not over
Kirk isn't going to get more than Carr, but a very comparable contract is very likely. If anything this Carr deal helps pave the way for Kirk's deal.
