I'm no expert with all this. Can anyone explain if Kirk can turn down a trade, if say Cleveland came calling? I get that he holds leverage as far as he can just play under the FT and basically walk next year, but if a trade is proposed, and it's not SF, can he block that trade?
I'm pretty sure he can't block the trade, but no team would trade for him unless they knew he'd be willing to make a long term deal.
I'm sick of Cousins, I know we have major dysfunction in the FO, but this is the team (and the coach) who made it possible for him to become a top QB. The team paid him $20 million dollars last season and are willing to pay him $24 million this season and he's being all diva-like/bitchy about this?
Just shut up and play.

Yeah, I don't know what all is going on inside that organization, and without that knowledge, it's hard to argue with what you are saying there.

If I'm the skins:
1) Offer a good contract. 21-24 per year with incentives to go higher.
2) Play him under the franchise if he doesn't sign it.
3) Toss the transition tag on him next year and get 2 #1's or match the contract he negotiates with another club. KC no longer negotiating with Bruce!

Report: Kirk Cousins won't sign with Bruce Allen still employed (http://was.247sports.com/Bolt/Report-Kirk-Cousins-wont-sign-with-Bruce-Allen-still-employed-51703015)
Now that he's signed the tag he can be traded. Maybe that was the plan. Obviously no love lost between Kirk and Allen. Read somewhere Scott wanted him signed last year, Allen didnt.

Tossing the tag for a third time is not practical. If they did this, it would certainly sour things for all involved. If nobody matches 34 million, the team is on the hook for it. Now you're stuck paying one player 20 percent of your cap... a player that's probably beyond not wanting to play for you anymore. And it's a bad look to potential FAs (and QB draftees).

Pretty sure it was Jay and Scott (wanted him signed) against Bruce and Dan(turds of a feather...still mad RG3 didn't work out and hate Cousins) . Pathetic.
Id like this to be resolved in the next couple months, either give him the deal or trade him.

They need to wipe the egg off their faces and trade him while they can still get something for him.

Cousins is set make $23.94 million under the franchise tag in 2017 if no long term deal is signed by mid July. If Cousins refuses to play (unlikely), the tag would roll over to 2018 and 2017 would not count as a tag year. Cousins has to play for Skins in 2017 since he signed the franchise tag today. The Skins could use the transition tag in 2018 which would be a 20% increase to 2017 or $28.78 million. The transition tag would allow Cousins to get offers from other teams but the Skins can match any deal and Cousins would have to sign it regardless. If he plays under the transition tag, he would be a free agent in 2019 as the Skins are unable to tag him the 4th time under the CBA. I am fully aware of his disdain for Allen/Snyder but minus the cap ramifications the Skins do have control the next 2 years although Cousins has the leverage financially. The caveat here is that if the Skins don't match offers in 2018 under the transition tag, they would receive no compensation for losing him. This is not an ideal situation but having Cousins under control for 2 years and no future cap hits is not as bad as it seems especially if the cap continues to increase annually.
First post but a long time lurker.

I think the team wants to give him a deal, but if he doesn't want to be here that's a problem he is creating.
I don't mind Bruce asking for a steep price for Cousins, his (KC) attitude and desire to go to SF would be costing the franchise a lot and the team would need a lot of draft ammo to rebuild.

Ricky Jean on the radio today basically backed up Cousins and in a nut shell said the Redskins are a mess. RJ is a respected guy and a stand up solid guy, not a disgruntled employee. That says a lot...
