This is precisely what they don't want to do. They aren't taking two years to come up up with a new name to have to explain how its not related to the old name.
What is wrong with it being related to the old name?
We were the Redskins for a long, long time and in 2 different cities. We were also briefly the Braves. We have a longer history than most teams. One would think it reasonable that we cannot sever everything related to that history.
We have jettisoned the links to Native Americans. The mob got what they wanted, but that's it.
Using "Red" is just phonetics. Nothing objectionable about that.

Everything you say is true.
What I'm saying is the organization is going through this rename and after two years they aren't going anywhere near a name that can remotely cause the chance of more accusations which could create the potential for having to do another name change. WFT doesn't want to look like a bigger bunch of buffoons than they already are.
The colors are the link because if they really wanted to totally sever old ties they change to red, white, blue and call themselves the Americans or something like that. Even WFT is smart enough to know that would be too much for the fans that are left to swallow.

I hear you. I just don't see Redwolves as having the potential to cause that kind of blowback.
The Miami Redskins became the Redhawks while the St Johns Redmen became the Red Storm, so there is precedent.

After Cleveland's Guardians fiasco (and the blow back has been huge) it makes me wonder if the Redskins will be a little hesitant to pick a name at this point. I think it strengthens the argument to stick with WFT. If they do go with another name it will only be a small minority that likes it and everyone else whose choice wasn't picked will start shooting holes in the new name (Which is what is happening in Cleveland right now).

I don't see much in the way of the blowback you are talking about. And Washington will receive a ton of blowback if after tons of talk about fan submissions, posting polls, and linking to the past without Native American imagery, they leave the name as WFT. That (hopefully) just is not happening.
Regardless once the name is announced people, including me, will just have to accept it and move on. I like Rivera and Wright being at the head of the change, I just have a level of trust with them that I haven't had since Gibbs, and it is probably stronger than that, because the two seem to have a real strong hold on where they want this team to get to, and what it takes to make that happen - both on the field and off.

Yeah there's no way they stick with the temporary name after 2 years of talking about how great, thorough and complicated a renaming process they were going through... To me that's as close as 100% out an option can be.
As you said, we will all accept the new name at some point, and the more time they take, the more even those not liking the new one will go "erf, at least we finally have a name", and I think they know that.
Side note, Ron is cool with Redwolves (https://www.ballysports.com/watch/vod/home-with-annie-agar-ron-rivera) (at 00:48, also ok with Redtails and wouldn't mind staying with WFT).

Well we know that isn't exactly true. The franchise lost a chunk (probably a substantial chunk) of their fan base when they retired the Redskins. No matter what they do with the new name they will lose some more. That will come into their calculations as well. The assumption at this point is WFT will do the least amount of immediate damage and they will have to balance that against what name they think has the most potential to regrow their diminished fan base.

Just don't be worse than The Guardians. That's my floor. Above that and I'll live.

Yeah... it was probably that and not the 30 years of crap football.

Again, could be wrong, but I strongly disagree with that. Do you picture how stupid and lame they'd look if they kept the temporary name found in 2 weeks after 2 years+ of talking up their great rebranding process and how they value the trillions of fans input they bragged about receiving ?
Plus they talked many times about wanting to pick a long lasting name. How cheap will it look in 60+years : "wait, why did they stick with the no-name-name that was supposed to be temporary again ? -well some people were pissed about the name changed and they were scared to piss some more by picking a new name...".
