I'm pretty sure Redwolves is out because of legal issues with the trademark, not because of a Twitter rumor.I don't buy the trademark issues. Not saying it will be redwoods, but if the team can't overcome a trademark then all the names are pretty much trashed. This is a once in a century option - like a franchise qb if you find the one you want you pull out all the stops to get him. Haven't we proven we know how to do that! [emoji17]

I would love nothing more than the hold up being a person who holds the trademark, doesn’t care about money and is more stubborn than Dan Snyder

Think Arkansas State is already using Red Wolves? Why would they want to let a pro team use it?

I'm pretty sure Redwolves is out because of legal issues with the trademark, not because of a Twitter rumor. There are trademark issues with Redwolves, but the twitter rumor is that somebody heard it's completely out.
I read an article the other day, trademark rules are way more complicated as people think, IE there's a notion of does the consumer make a confusion between the 2 brands. Which definitely wouldn't be the case between an NFL team located in DC and a college team in Arkansas.
Not an expert, but from what I understood there's nothing there that a multi billions dollars franchise couldn't hurdle.

I think you are giving our protagonist in here too much credit. Dan is dealing with a lot of shit. People are starting to look him ibn the eye, calling him Dan instead of Mr. Snyder, has to buy heated benches to keep up with the Joneses. He doesn't have time to be as litigious as he used to be. That is a young Snyder's game.
Dan’s dealing with a lot of shit here

Good read from last year about the trademark issues with Redwolves
https://www.arkansasonline.com/news/2020/jul/21/wolves-not-just-for-teams-taking/
"Washington wouldn't be the first professional sports team interested in the name, either. Chattanooga Red Wolves SC, a professional men's soccer team in the United Soccer League, filed a complaint seeking a declaratory judgment in federal court over the name in November 2019. A court date has been set for Oct. 12, 2021."
"Legal professionals said Chattanooga has a couple of things going for it in this case. First, it's a professional team while ASU is amateur. Second, the two logos are different in color and design, making each distinguishable.
"If you just look at the two marks -- the wolves' heads -- I think Arkansas State has a really difficult argument there," said John Wolohan, a sports law professor at Syracuse University. "The two marks look different to me. I'm not the judge ... but to me those marks are clearly different. If I bought the Arkansas State logo, I would not believe I'm supporting the soccer team in Chattanooga."
The most-likely outcome, professionals said, is a co-existence settlement. Arkansas State has a record of doing this in the past, settling with the Indiana University East Red Wolves in 2009."
"This is the most common outcome and a trial in 2021 may not be necessary, professionals said.
"I will say, even as somebody who is not a part of the litigation itself, just as an outsider looking in," Heitner said, "I would place a bet that it's more likely than not that they come to a resolution prior to a trial." "
"But if Washington really wants to adopt the Red Wolves name, it comes down to one question.
"Who is going to have the leverage? And if the Washington team really wants that name, they can do it," Conrad said. "They don't have to file the trademark yet. The ownership can use the Red Wolves name. It could be messy, but the team has financial resources to settle a future dispute and possibly gain a co-existence agreement.
"When you have more money in your pocket, you have more flexibility." "

Do you guys really feel so strongly about Red Wolves that you think we need to embark on some stupid legal battle with Arkansas State to get it?
Jesus fuck. There has to be better names out there that aren't taken already.

Think Arkansas State is already using Red Wolves? Why would they want to let a pro team use it?Because a pro team promised cash/ name recognition/came to a legal settlement quietly. Also the trademark would be Washington RedWolves. The Giants in SF can't stop the New York Giants.
I am not saying it wouldn't be a hurdle, but definitely not insurmountable if you have the legal and financial resources and the resolve to pursue it.

Jesus fuck. There has to be better names out there that aren't taken already. Most names are in use somewhere. Look at Guardians. That is just part of doing the due diligence that they supposedly have done the last two years.
I really doubt it would be much of an issue if they choose it. I think it is more something that people who don't want redwolves throw out there as a rationale.
