The Cleveland Indians will now be known as the "Guardians" Thoughts?


Awful name. Guardians at the Gates of Hell would be cooler.

Just curious as to why you think that. I think it’s an almost perfect match.

Perfect match to what? The colors, maybe, the city? No So many other opportunities to rep the city better than an animal that is not indigenous. With all the history in that city there are far better options.

Cleveland naming the team the Guardians is a name that was off the radar for them. The Spiders and Blues has been thrown around for the last year and they picked a name off the radar, my hope is that is what happens here.

Washington ... capitals, nationals, defenders, senators and generals are all taken and those seem like the best options

Perfect match to what? The colors, maybe, the city? No So many other opportunities to rep the city better than an animal that is not indigenous. With all the history in that city there are far better options.

Exactly. And Redskins had nothing to do with the city, it was iconic because it was iconic. Sports teams use animals to represent the ferocity and the mentality of the sports team. Wolves is so natural to football, I just don't get the disdain and angst over it at all.

I am sure I have said this before, but Wolves are natural enemies to Eagles, Cowboys and Giants. The images of opposing qbs pounced on by a pack of wolves is an amazing marketing image. A running back avoiding tackles easily transfers to the image of a wolf evading an enemy. So many stunning images.
Guardians brings up Guardians of the galaxy, Sentinels has some merit, but wolves hit every key concept of a football team on the field.
