I dont think it puts wolves to bed, and when the stadium breaks out in howls every game the call of the wild is only going to get stronger [emoji3]

Just listen to what Wright said. How does a wolf come into play with anything that has to do w/ the DMV? Nothing.

I don't think monuments would be all that bad, it could definitely lead to some cool looking logos. Either way I'm not going to get too worked up over any of this. There will eventually be a new name, some will like it, some won't, and we'll all move forward.

To me this would be the best one and make the most sense. You could really come up w/ so many great logos.

I haven't actually heard Wright's comment in context, but off the top of my head, the National Zoo seems like it opens the door for any animal to be authentic. In addition, the word authentic doesn't imply or require a specific tie to DC/MD/VA such as the idea of a wolf walking the streets of DC, it could easily mean that the characteristics that they keep flashing on these videos are found both in the Washington team and the Wolves branding. So when they talk about the team values and traits or what the team stands that is where the authentic part comes in. They used terms like nobility, pride, grit, resilience, something deep and meaningful. The wolf as a spirit animal lists most if not all of those characteristics.

Interestingly, I rewatched all three making the brand videos, and the first one ended with them asking kids if it should be an animal and all but 2 raised their hands to say it should.

No one piece in these videos prove it will be Wolves, but so far, watching all 3 I see a very strong marketing method leading to the Wolves.
for like nobility pride, being noble, having pride, caring empathy relentlessness, tradition, strong passion, unified around something deep and meaningful (wolves have
resilince grit tradition nobility should allow that spirit to continue.

So now that reports are out that the new name won't be any kind of animal or human tribe (I assume that eliminates Redtails too) what does that leave us with?

The national zoo? lol come on man that's really a reach

Something authentic to the area doesn't seem all that difficult to interpret to me. It's going to be something that ties in specifically with the area. I know you want it to be wolves and that's fine, but you seem to be stretching things quite a bit to fit what you want.

the National Zoo might be stretching it, but being authentic doesn't mean a specific tie or link. It means capturing the values and traits of the area. For that Wolves works fine.

I definitely do want Wolves, I also think Wolves, Commanders and WFT are the 3 in competition, and I would be good with Wolves or Commanders, and would hold my nose for a while but ultimately accept WFT.

I just hope they pick something better than Guardians, RedTails, RedHogs, or Monuments

Not really sure wolves fits under authentic without a bit of a stretch of the imagination. And when compared with something like Monuments, it's a clear winner as to which one is truly more authentic to the area. (Not saying I want Monuments).

do you have a link or source for that? I haven't heard anything official saying that. I do think people are trying to use "authentic" as a dismissal of animals but I don't believe the team has ever said that.
