I concede your first point. Still think the ratio of fans leaving over the crap football and our franchise's reputation being in the shitter is probably 90% vs. the fans who left because of the name change.
Even here - how many fans do we have who publicly declared the name change was the last straw and they were out? Just for sample size. We got 1 guy here who says he might leave for continuity purposes.
If Daniel Snyder started a brand new team anywhere but the DC area, would you become a fan?

Fun interview with Coach Ron. He likes the name Red Wolves.

I'd imagine the name change affected the Redskins remaining diaspora more than the local fans when I say a chunk it wouldn't surprise me if they lost 40-50% their remaining fans that didn't live in the DC area. I stuck around because my solution was to ignore the change - ie I still only call them the Redskins, and only buy and wear Redskins gear (which is obviously now customized or pirated). Although, I do have a nice Chase Young Redskins jersey, which is an official NFL version, imagine that may be worth something in a few years (got it in May 2020).

40-50% seems high, although I have no data to back up any argument with that. Just seems high. My guess is those who were fans for a number of years likely stuck with them, while newer fans had more of a propensity to jump ship. Would be interesting to find out the actual numbers.

That would be an interesting study.
I would add that the arrival and subsequent success of the Ravens took a chunk out of our fanbase, especially among the young with no memory of the Gibbs era.
And likewise a lot of Orioles fans probably ditched the team because of Angelos and went over to the Nats.

The majority of the fanbase left because the team has stunk. That is what happens.
Did people see that the Guardians are having issues with a roller derby club. LOL That's why you do a name search, and diligence and resolve things in the background.
Getting the new name, making sure the web and social media are going to work, and that copyrights and other legal niceties all takes time. If it was Snyder/Allen/Cerrato handling it, I would be petrified. But Rivera, Wright and the rest of the operations staff seem to have an actual clue how to do this right. I wish they would announce it, and move forward, but so far everything has been handled with aplomb so I will wait impatiently and hope RR pulls another 15-1 season out of his hat in the meantime.

I did say those that were outside the area, most of whom are the older fans. That set was more likely than newer fans to drop their fandom over a name change so I view 40-50% as a conservative estimate (But like what was pointed out no evidence of this). Ironically we also probably lost most of our Native American fans.

No, because I'm a DC sports fan. Born and raised, still live here. It's why I'm a Nats fan and not an O's fan - because I don't have any connection to Baltimore even though they were the closest MLB franchise for the first 17 or so years of my life.
