Who is Kirk Cousins?

If kirk plays well these next 4 games and we win the east he deserves an extension imo. He's already matching redskins qb records from the glory days. Of course griff was great for 1 yr too but kirk seems to have a better overall understanding than any of our past qbs

It would be deserving for some of you fans for Cousins to land somewhere else and be the pro bowl player I think he can be..I will agree the jury is still out on him so to speak but in spite of the team around him He is playing very well..If you can't see that then you either don't know jack about football or you are a closet RGIII fan ! I asked this question before ..what QB do you think would make the redskins a top notch team now..like next week?? to the folks who don't like Kirk who would you bring in for the rest of the season of you could ..BRADY? ROGERS?NEWTON?Wilson?Brees?Manning?Dalton?Palmer?R yan?..what QB could come in here without a run game with no pass protection bad special teams and a losing culture thats going on a decade..who ?? Cousins is doing all he can do with what he has to work with! as far as the Dallas game IF Romo had not got hurt early in the year the Cowboye would have already clinched the division and most likely have at least 9 wins already..they have the 5th ranked D in the league ..its not like we got beat by a crap team .I bet you the Skins can get at least a number one pick for cousins now..dallas would love them some Cousins..so would a lot of other teams!

No matter what happens. Kirk deserves an extension. He'll get the franchise tag most likely. He's top half of the league in performance for his position, and there isn't another option coming out that we can consider grabbing in our draft position.

If the Redskins get lucky and get a few draft picks and free agents that actually make a difference and next year with Cousins we win 10 games the Cousins haters will say the reason they won was the new players they added..it will never be because of Kirks play to some. If Jay Cutler had been playing in washington all these years what do you think the fan base would say of his career?? I would not trade Cousins for Cutler.

I don't understand why people get so worked up on both sides in regards to Cousins.

Unless he truly shits the bed in the rest of the season, Cousins is likely going to get an extension. He will probably get overpaid, because all QBs get overpaid (see Ryan Tannehill). QB free agency doesn't look that great for next offseason; and Scot McCloughan already had a bad experience in Seattle when they got Matt Flynn as the top FA QB and he flopped.

On the flipside, just because Cousins gets an extension it doesn't mean that the team will not get a young QB in the next year or so. I mean look at Green Bay way back, when they had Favre and drafted Rodgers.

Look at you! Somebody who finally gets it!

Yes, he'll be re-signed.

Yes, he'll be overpaid.

No, there isn't anybody better out there who we can get right now.

No, re-signing Kirk doesn't mean that we won't draft a young QB.

We're not talking about anointing Kirk as the Redskins starter for the next ten years but he is our best option for right now. And we're going to have to overpay because the specter of a huge $25MM Franchise Player tag will make it necessary.

Favre was in his 14 th year and 10 years older than Cousins when GB drafted Rodgers. Unless there is some crazy good qb who inexplicably is there when we are picking anywhere in the draft I would rather hold Colt and maybe get a veteren who can still play to back up KC. I think it would be a huge mistake to reach at all for a qb when KC is finally going into an offseason knowing it is his team.

Isn't Colt a veteran who can back up KC? And I didn't say anything about reaching for a QB. I'm just saying that keeping Cousins doesn't mean we won't get a QB.

I said "hold colt, and get a veteran to back up KC". I meant collectively. I should have been more clear and said "another veteran" though. My bad. Anyway I think anytime you draft a player, in this case a qb as you mentioned, that is not going to play anytime soon - when you have SO MANY OTHER NEEDS- it is a reach. Also it would maybe mess with KC's head. Where as if we stand pat with Colt and another veteran, KC knows he is the man. When GB took Rodgers, Favre was obviously towards the end of his career and it was a case where a really highly touted qb was inexplicably hanging around.

You are either elite or you are serviceable? No in between? No difference between say Matt Ryan and Brian Hoyer? Big Ben and say Sam Bradford? Maybe im misunderstanding what you mean by serviceable but to me serviceable means a stop gap until you get someone good.

When I say serviceable I mean that it's a QB you can win with, but perhaps not a difference-maker at the position. I don't look at Cousins as a difference maker kind of QB. He is a QB that you could probably interchange out with 8-10 other QB's in the league and the team would likely have the same results based on the team around them.

The Top 4-5 QB's in the league make their teams better. Brady for example makes no names into stars for the few seasons they are catching passes from him. These are the QB's you can't afford to lose. They make a good team great, a great team elite.

Does that help explain it a bit better?
