When is Enough ,Enough?

I get frustrated with the status quo element of the democratic party. There are plenty of young people with fresh ideas in the party and yet they keep electing the same stale old, white leadership. I find a lot of them (I'm looking at you Pelosi) to be hypocritical. They talk a good game but never commit to real change. Look at climate change. Every major political party in every democracy except the US can get shit done on that and Pelosi flat refuses to even address it but claims she is a proponent for sustainability. Schumer is a puppet and a wimp I have never seen a senator from NY literally the financial and social capital of the world with an inability to drive change. Their leadership and the push to the coastal elite as the base has driven the loss of blue collar and rural voters. Both of whom are widely ignored by both parties. I really get why they overwhelmingly went for Trump, he has the only one to speak directly too them. This might seem like I don't like them because they aren't liberal enough and maybe so. I have no problem with moderates but with out deviation from the norm progress cannot be made.

The single biggest issue that every citizen (i believe) would agree on in a heartbeat is term limits for senators. It should be no more than 18 years in the Senate. Biggest ongoing mistake by the founding fathers - although it really took effect once senators became publicly elected.

Sen. Jeff Merkley is calling on President-elect Joe Biden to employ "bold executive action" to address climate change, urging unilateral changes to transportation and spending on alternative energy.

"The climate crisis is an emergency, and President-elect Joe Biden needs to treat it that way," Merkley, D-Ore., said in a Washington Post op-ed Monday. "That means using every tool available to him, including declaring a national climate emergency and using emergency powers to take unilateral executive action."

He added that the country "can't wait" for legislative action, even from a Democratic Senate. Instead, he said Biden should leverage the Defense Production Act and the National Emergencies Act to take sweeping action.

Biden could redirect spending to build renewable energy systems, implement large-scale clean transportation solutions and finance distributed energy projects to boost climate resiliency, Merkley wrote. All of those tactics would help safeguard communities and slash harmful pollution, the senator wrote.

After Congress refused to give Trump money for his wall, he declared a national emergency that allowed him to steer billions to building a wall. At the time, I was wondering what would stop any President from just declaring "an emergency" for anything to circumvent Congress.

It would certainly suck if Presidents just started doing this to circumvent Congress. If Trump did it for his wall, why couldnt Biden do it for climate change? Anyways ..... just another of the many things republicans cant complain about anyone doing in the future because they didnt complain when Trump did it.

Not that Biden should or would do it ... I just dont want to hear the Ted Cruz' of the world talk about Congress and Constitution blah blah blah bc those constraints only apply when theres a D next to the Presidents name.

LOL, I agree on term limits but no more than two terms three at max, 18 years that's funny! No more than ten years on the Supreme Court! I would like to add a flat tax across the board.

3 terms for a Senator = 18 years. I am ok with 2 terms(12 years) as well. Supreme court should be 20 to 25 years, to prevent crazy turnover of legal jurisprudence. Call me an ageist, but all federal positions (including President LOL) should have a mandatory retirement at no older than 80 years, but I would be ok down to 75.

I agree. I would be fine with doing 5 year senate terms, max 10 years and change half the senate each election. Since every state has 2, 1 seat in each state is up for election every election. It would also make the senate seats not follow the the presidential cycle for more diversity

Yesss!!! I want to go out agreeing with each other. Flat tax is the way to go! I would add to that, no tax on the 1st 40K for individual filers and the 1st 80k for joint filers. And that's it. No waivers, write-offs, etc. On the 1st 40 or 80K, no one pays any federal taxes.

IMO a flat tax with a raised floor, protects Americans that need to be protected the most and eliminates people that can pay their taxes from BS writeoffs.
