South Korea president has already said the trump administration has played a major part in pressuring both North Korea And China into talks and ending the nuclear program.

While accurate, they went broke because of Reagan's push. My guess is kim jung pushed his research beyond his ability because of trump's pushing him. And in effect brought a backlash that ended his research.
